Our Toulouse / Embden cross goslings are 6wks old...

Oh, good to know...thanks! Yep..both parents were purebred for their breed. Can anyone suggest a good way to mark babies when they're little? I've seen leg bands for chickens. I didn't know if they'd work well for geese or ducks

Our Toulouse / Embden cross goslings are 6wks old...

Are lavenders always male? I did a chek when they were little and didn't have a way to mark them...I think I have 4 males & 5 females...but not sure. They're still squeaking, no honks. They're all pretty much the same size still...no distinguishing characteristics yet.

So, my Embden girl...is she broody or not?

Well...Thanks day was supposed to be an egg day. She was on the nest and then got up. When I went to check the count and see if she started to feather, she was back on. Looks love like I officially have a broody goose. She's got at least 10 eggs. Yay! :celebrate

So, my Embden girl...is she broody or not?

Hi all... This year, we decided to let our goose keep her eggs. She's laid 15 eggs so far, but we pulled the first few to eat (my 9yr old LOVES goose omlettes! ) and to check them for fertility. We were good to go on the fertile eggs and got the coop set up to give her her own little space...

Where do you put your food and water

Put the food inside. I learned the hard way...feed in the pen draws in unwanted critters (think possums and such). But we have a water bucket inside and out in the run. Good luck and have fun!

Hi everyone, I just need some advice. I have a hand last night who got caught in the coop and had a little damage to her wing. There's a small abrasion that I have already treated with some antibacterial ointment. I kept her in the house last night and separated but there's no visible wounds...

Lame hen, no breaks... how should I treat?

Yep....it looks good. She doesn't mind me handling it. It seems whatever is painful is higher up the leg. It may be a strain or sprain. I'm not sure how she injured herself. Should I put her in a sling so she's not lying down all the time? How much aspirin can I guve her to help make her...

Lame hen, no breaks... how should I treat?

I had posted that I thought my hen was egg bound but it turns out she has a bad leg. Not sure what happened but it's not broken. She's eating and pooping well and she's starting to get her spunkiness back. I have her isolated. Her leg is obviously sore when I pick her up. I've read that you...

Hi all, I have a 6mo old EE hen who's having issues. Of course, I was out of town when she was found by our 'chicken sitter' about 11am yesterday. She was laying in the coop panting and wouldn't get up. I thought she may be egg bound. I had our friend separate her but I didn't get back...
