Thanks! I'm really enjoying writing it and have even had a few people tell me it makes them want to start their own flock, haha! I should have another post up tomorrow evening so please check back in!
Hello everyone!
I am a newbie to the chicken world (and BYC) from Nova Scotia, Canada and I am already a chicken addict!!! My boyfriend has even started calling me the crazy chicken lady...I told him it was better than being the crazy cat lady, haha! I built a coop and adopted two sets of...
Haha okay, thanks for the tip and I guess I have to update my 'chicken list' of what I have...I didn't know that you could breed coloured eggs into different kinds of chickens but this whole egg saga will make for an entertaining blog post! Are "Easter Eggers" an actual breed or is it more of a...
Hello everyone,
I have adopted chickens that I've had since August and they just started laying eggs. I had one that I wasn't sure of the breed but the consensus was that she is a Black Sex Link (and looking at all the pictures I've been able to find I would agree). Today she laid her first...
Well I guess time will tell? S/he is really skittish and acts like the other hens and the most dominant leghorn sometimes beats her/him up. Does this mean if s/he is a she her comb might get bigger when she starts laying? They were all really skinny and rough/dirty looking when I got them, could...
I'm not certain of how old she is, the people I got her from said they got her last summer so about a year I guess. They said that they were laying eggs (but they weren't sure which ones were laying because they would just find eggs around the yard). I have had them for over a month, a weasel...
She is always kind of fluffy, and currently has a patch under her neck where feathers are growing in. She has pretty much no comb, it could have been frostbitten as the last people who had these chickens let them free range in the purest sense of the word....they had no coop for winter shelter...
My chicken looked JUST like yours, and she had her back eaten a bit....it happened in the middle of the night and he has been back every night since but cannot get in (I have since lined my whole floor and stapled a few inches up the side with 1/4" hardware cloth),a but he has dug out almost 2/3...
Hi everyone!
I'm a newbie here and I got my chickens from someone who was just trying to get rid of them....this is oneof my girls, "Roxie", she's black and has a few orange/gold feathers on the front of her neck, no comb, and not much of a tail and she's pretty big, almost twice the size of...
He has already dug tunnels everywhere around and under my coop floor...can I use one of his existing tunnels and put the trap in that way? And will fresh deer meat work for bait?
It's definitely a weasel or a pine marten, the tunnel is small and I have seen them around here the past few years...
Hi! I'm a newbie in the chicken world and unfortunately I had the exact same thing happen to one of my chickens (and 2 more were killed just for fun-3 of 7 gone in one night!!). My boyfriend used to do a lot of trapping said it is mostly likely a weasel. I have had a variety of traps out for the...
