Chickens can be addicting. Its a great feeling to raise them from chicks into adulthood and then start getting your first eggs. Good luck in your adventure.
I love the red stars. I have five of them now and even with the shorter days I am still getting four eggs a day from them. My other breeds have all but stopped laying.
I started with two red stars from TSC as chicks. Most day they lay one egg each but from time to time one of them will lay two eggs a day. Bought three more red stars from Shook Poultry Sept. 1st and one of those has started to lay. Great layers and very friendly to boot.
Just some Pictures of my birds and my set up.

My boss raised chickens and would bring his extra eggs for us at work. Loved the taste of the eggs so I took the plunge and got my own. Never regreted getting them. Five Red Stars two Cornish Rocks and three game birds later and we don't have to buy eggs now.
Just wanting to say hello. I am not new to BYC but I am a new member. I am in my 8th month of raising chickens. We always had them when I was a kid but I finally took the plunge this year and got my own birds. Love the eggs we have been getting the last few months and don't think I can go back...
