I got two guinea hens with my 10 NH reds last yr, all chicks. I'm in a resdential neighorhood and had tons of ticks.I finally had to get rid of the guineas because they were so loud and crazy. They were also teaching a few of my NHreds bad habits, like not going in the coop to roost at night.I...

    Dog killed my only roo...........

I agree with Matty, why wait for the dog to return and kill again. If it were my roo or hen, there would be no next time for the dog in question. As far as" this is what dogs do " thats alot of bull bunk. This is what some dogs do, usaully owned by people who don't take responsibilty for there...

    Honey bees stealing chicken food

I have 6 hives of honeybees and they haven't been into my chickens food thous far. I feed my girls laying pellets and laying mash. This is a tough time of yr for honeybees, some surviving hives are near starving and will get into things you wouldn't think appeal to honeybees. As someone...

    Do crows pose a threat?

I encourage crows to hang around my property, as they chase hawks when they come around my place. Yesterday i gave them some chicken fat/skin and a call, they came pretty fast for their treat. Not 5 minutes later i heard a commotion out back , their were my crow friends descending on a redtail...

Honeybees are usaully pretty active in 50 to 80 degree weather. In my area on Long Is.NY it was in the high thirties yesterday and i had honeybees all over the place, crashing into the snow. BEES!?!

A swarm trap doesn't " kill" the bees, it provides a home, that scout bees have choosen for their new home...As mentioned, Africanized bees look the same as our common fairly mellow honeybees ( except when you agiatate there hive)...Only lab test can determine what they truly are. Once bees are...

    Lost another layer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :he

I use to relocate raccoons, but they find their way back. I know a guy who put some pant on a raccoons back and relocate almost 1 miles, he caught the same coon, reconizing the paint on its back. Keep trapping and putting them down or you'll never get rid of them...!Remember, sometimes a...

    Lost another layer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :he

I agree, build a strong defense, the protection of your hens is only as good as the soundness of your coop. Raccoons are strong and smart, and determined when hungry, even more so with young to feed. I have a pretty good coop, and i still trap and destroy. I set my traps within 10 ft or so of my...

    BEES!?!

As mentioned, they may be Africanized honeybees(aka killer bees) which can present a very serious problem. If their still around as you read my post, try to enlist the help of a local beekeeper. Setting swarm traps in the area of your chicken coop may entice the bees to move into traps and not your...
