Edited to add state
get yourself a dog. like a great pyrenees, and put it living with your chickens right now as a puppy. when you move out there, you'll be able to build their coop IN the woods if you want and not have much of a predator problem. just something to consider
the first little hen, except for the feathered legs, looks alot like a wheaten colored OEG bantam. im thinking maybe cochin/oeg cross? the third pi is definitely a roo though. here's a wheaten oe hen for comparison
yep i bought em at petrus. the wife said she wants to go back and buy every silkie they have, lol. it aint happenin'. their prices are great, arent they?
well it appears the girl at the feed store was a little off on the colors of the wife's chicks. by looking at feathersite.com i think we have buff laced polish and red cochins. not white polish and buff cochins. we could be wrong but thats how it looks. not that it matters.
my buddy has a pond with an island and his muscovies do fine on it. he doesnt feed his ducks but maybe once a week. they forage for food. i feed mine often but they're always eating something. GREAT FOR MOSQUITOS TOO
well, where i am, they do really well and we have coons, possums, mink, even some feral cats. they can move pretty fast when they need to and i dont know how old yours are but muscovies are good fliers. thanx everyone for the comments.
yea we have an adult drake with 3 hens right now. we've given away several this year. we live on a bayou in a very rural area and the neighbors all feed the duck so we're ok with just letting nature take its course. the 4 new ducklings will be kept in a pen for awhile though.
we went to pick up some things at the feed store and came home with 4 new muscovies, 2 buff cochins, 2, white polish and 2 more silkies (a white and a buff). we'll post some pics when we can
lol, it sure has been awhile. you're right bout the heat too. the feed i was telling you about is a crumble also. i pay just under 14 bucks for 50lbs. the feed store used to have to order it for me because i was the only person around here using it. she said she orders 10 bags at a time...
