Color Sexing EE's (lots of pics!)

I've never heard of a triple comb. I tried to guess what you mean by that, but I'm not sure. :)

Color Sexing EE's (lots of pics!)

Just put them outside today and took some better pictures. Hopefully now it's easy to tell boys and girls. There are a few that I'm not sure of. I'm going to try to keep them in the same order I did before. 1. Here's the one we named spot. 99% sure this is a boy...my daughter wants to...

Color Sexing EE's (lots of pics!)

Ok...some updates! They're older, I'd love your thoughts. I was rushed taking the pictures so I didn't get the full run down like I did before. I can do that tomorrow I think if that's more helpful. I think I may have more roo's then I know what to do with. Stew? Gal or Boy? Beginning...

Color Sexing EE's (lots of pics!)

Ok...a couple weeks later, and some more feathers to look at. I'm going to do my very best to post them in the same order I did before. I think I can...we'll see. :) I still can't tell how many are boys, although I've been watching some combs and some are starting to look pink. Too early for...

Color Sexing EE's (lots of pics!)

I crossed him with blue egg laying EE's. All these chicks hatched out of blue eggs. I considered that he might not have received the blue egg gene, but all the momma's do. :)

Color Sexing EE's (lots of pics!)

Thanks so much for the insight guys. Here's a picture of papa. He's possibly one of the best roo's I've ever had. A gentleman to the end, and never aggressive. I recently had to give him to a friend to appease some neighbors, he was loud. I told them I would not be giving up one of his sons...

Color Sexing EE's (lots of pics!)

I don't know if this has been posted about before, but..I'm a newbie and this is my very first hatch. I'm hoping to breed olive eggers, and I've read that you can learn to color sex them when they're quite young. I'm pretty sure mine might be too young to sex, but I have some suspicions...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

I have a set of eggs in the incubator, first batch since I had a gal die of Marek's this past spring. I plan on vaccinating these chicks because they will most undoubtedly be exposed. I've found different types of vaccines though, and I'm confused as to which ones would be the best for my...

    Which vaccine for Marek's?

I have a set of eggs in the incubator, first batch since I had a gal die of Marek's this past spring. I plan on vaccinating these chicks because they will most undoubtedly be exposed. I've found different types of vaccines though, and I'm confused as to which ones would be the best for my...

What would you do? Sad looking bird...

I've had two chickens die so far this year. The first when I took her for a necropsy was Marek's. The second one had the strange belly swell. When I spoke with my vet (who didn't examine her) he said he felt her death was less due to being egg bound and more due to retaining water. He said as...

What would you do? Sad looking bird...

Sadly, this morning she is worse. She's not walking voluntarily, and I can feel every bone in her little body. I'm going to put her down sometime this weekend. I worry that the lack of walking is indicative of Marek's again. I'll be ordering the vaccine....does it help to vaccinate adult...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Hi guys...last April I had a Welsummer die from what appeared to be Marek's so said the necropsy. I now have another girl who's lost a ton of weight, and this morning seems like she's wasting away. I'm not sure if it's Marek's, but she's laying down all the time, the wind practically knocks...

What would you do? Sad looking bird...

So, I did pick her up and move her. She weighs so little. I don't handle my birds that often, I was shocked. She might weigh 2lbs. This can't be a normal molt. Any thoughts? My fear is that Marek's is creeping back into my flock. I did not cull all my birds when I had one gal with it. No...

What would you do? Sad looking bird...

So I have this sweet little black astrolorp who has slowly declined all summer. She's not a great layer anymore, and now she just looks sad. Here's a picture of her taken this past April, and she was such a beauty. I've had two deaths in the coop this year, one pointed to Marek's from a...

1 week old chick with bumble foot?

Here's a picture of her now chastising me for wanting to post "Guess What?" jokes to my friends on facbeook. :)

1 week old chick with bumble foot?

Well, the chick is now an adult, and is healthy and lays beautiful blue eggs. At the time I treated them with some antibiotics in their water. They ate non-medicated chick feed. The black marks were not from dirt, or newspaper...I can only imagine that it was some kind of infection.

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Well, we got the tests back this evening and my girl tested positive for Marek's. Here's my question now to all of you. I'm moving in 4 weeks. My husband has built me a new coop that hasn't been used yet by any of my birds. I know with certainty my 3 remaining adults have not been...

5 month old hen, can't walk

Thanks guys...I culled her last night and dropped her off at an Animal Testing Lab this morning. Luckily it's free in Maryland. It will be a few days before I know for sure if it was Marek's or not. Thanks for the support guys, I will keep you updated.

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Going to join in this conversation. I had another post about my 5 month old girl who started favoring one of her legs last week, it was Thursday or Friday. I took her to the vet yesterday, thinking maybe she had dislocated it or something. He said her legs were fine, but they both were...
