I have a flock of 14 Ancona ducks, (2 drakes and 12 ducks). Occasionally I separate the males from the females for 2 or 3 weeks because the males are just too rough on the females and a few will get beat up pretty badly with bloody heads from mating. My question is two-fold:
1. How long...
I am trying to sort out the wealth of information on the internet about ivermectin and am just about lost. I have scaly leg mites in my chickens and have decided to go ahead with the ivermectin. I bought the Durvet pour on for cattle, 5mg per ML. My main question is about the withdrawal...
We have newly hatched chicks today too! I have had chickens for years but never had a broody hen, so this is all new for me. Do they need food and water immediately? One of the chicks was pecking at mama's food shortly after hatching. I have had mama separated from the rest of the flock in a...
Thank you for the info! Glad to hear it.
Update from the farm here: I am totally convinced that ivermectin kills fleas! Since I couldn't find any reliable info, I waited until the kittens were 12 weeks old and then dosed them topically between the shoulder blades with ivermectin. Poof: no...
I stumbled on this thread looking for information on using ivermectin for fleas in cats. Thank you Bear Foot Farm for your information as well. I am curious if this dosage is effective for fleas? I know that ivermectin is ivermectin is ivermectin...but the percentage varies widely depending...

Wow thanks for all the great info folks! Does anyone know what is meant by "French" guineas? Are there different colors within that catagory? And has anyone noticed any difference in temperment between the different varieties?
I am getting ready to order some guinea keets...but I can't seem to find much information about the different varieties. What are some recommendations? Mine will be free-range, raised with chickens and ducks. I want them mostly for bug control. Thanks!
Somewhere else on this site someone recommended Mt Healthy Hatchery. I ordered from them and am completely happy. Their shipping charges were reasonable (around $10 for 15 chicks). They put in an extra chick, which I didn't even realize until a week later! They were all so busy and active, I...
I read this whole thread and nobody mentioned guineas. Unless I missed it. I have read that they will eat squash bugs, which is the main reason I am getting some this spring! Does anyone know if they eat stink bugs as well?
Also, I have noticed that my chickens will eat just about anything...
