Hens eye missing.....have question about long term solution

I have a hen who is blind in one eye. The eye was different looking when she was a chick but I think she was able to see out of it somewhat. The last 2 years she has been totally blind in the eye. She seems to do well but I try to keep watch over her.

    Hen door

I lock my girls up every night regardless. I dont just shut them in, I lock the doors. One night I was late locking them in and found a skunk happily crunching away on eggs in the nest....I try to not be late anymore.

Thank you. None of the others appear ill but I moved their coop and thoroughly cleaned everything just in case. It was just awful. Thanks again.

    rooster fight! help!

I am so sorry. I think just getting everything cleaned up will help. I am not sure about aspirin. It can thin the blood and cause more bleeding....but i am no expert here. I just have not heard of that.

OMG! I cant believe what just happened!

Buttercup, a smallish easteregger hen had been somewhat depressed acting for a day or two. I took her out of the pen yesterday and brought her in and fixed her some water with ACV and scrambled eggs. She ate all the eggs, so I thought I would watch her for a day or two...anyway tonight I...

Our rooster sometimes attacks humans, but only half-heartedly.

My Roo was killed by a hawk. I acquired another roo "Hugo the huge"...he is mean. I am tolerating him until I get the run covered...after that, well, if he is still not pleasant to be around I will break out momma's dumpling recipe....but until the run is covered he is an excellent guardian.

    Squishy sour crop....ACV...yes or no?

When emptying the crop be careful that your girl does not aspirate. I had sour crop with one of my hens and emptying the crop, with treatment got rid of it very quickly.

    Electric Fence

I have the electric poultry fencing which I use a small lawn tractor battery to supply the charge. It has been very effective to keep ground predators out and nosey chickens in. Hehe....We move it when we move the flock around the property to free range, so to speak, within the protective...

    hawk

I am so glad your chickens are ok. I had traumatic event again today. I didn't see what happened by I suspect the hawk is back. Everyone was in the coop and wouldn't come out. Even my bantams in the covered run had went up inside their coop and must have been so frantic that they knocked...

    Sudden death - what happened?

    Hawk coloring

I thought it was strange too because the hawks I have unfortunately met didnt care what color the chicken was. I just wondered if anyone else heard or had experience with this.

    Hawk coloring

I just picked up a chicken breeds magazine and it talks about certain breeds of chickens who have hawk coloring which means they have a unique barring pattern which offers protection from flying predators. The Barred Rock, Dominique, and Wyandotte are given as a few examples. It says that...

HOW TO GET RID OF HAWKS/OWLS

I have had a problem with hawks. I will admit I was so angry I was prepared to shoot every one within a 50 mile radius. I still am still rather unhappy. I have a pen that looks like a disco with all the CDs hanging in it. There is so much fishing line strung up I hope the hawks think twice...

What to do?!?! Rooster tried to fight my rooster!!

The first thing you can do is ask the neighbor to keep their rooster away. If that doesn't work then reinforce your pen, if you can, with wire so they cant get their heads through it to fight. Its extra work for you unless you want to run the risk of your roo being seriously injured....or else...

    Will I hurt him!?

I used a dremmel saw on my rooster but I only cut them because they had grown so long they were curling up and he was having trouble walking. I did not cut them off completely, I only trinmmed them way down. There was no blood or anything, although I did clean them well prior to cutting, after...

    So Upset

So far so good...CD's working for now and I just got a new RIR roo my son named Hugo. He is still young as his spurs aren't fully out yet, but he is bigger than my last roo and hopefully can alarm the girls if that blasted predator returns.

I'm sorry for your loss however I certainly would not have been as gracious as you when confronting the evil hawk. I am at the point of "no holds barred" in my situation.
