Hello I am very new to Orpingtons, I was given some orpington hatching eggs from a friend and wanted to get some opinions on these 2 jubilee orps... they are both 8 weeks
I also have 1 lavender, 2 Blue, 1 splash, and 4 BLRW
very sure this one is a boy, much lighter without the dark mahogany...
I need Help!
I got a bunch of roos to go to freezer camp. All were healthy and nice looking birds. One though still had a full crop this morning and when he went in the "cone" he was drooling profusely. After I cleaned him up it looks like he had a badly impacted crop (hay and straw) the crop...
whhooo just got caught up on this thread I have been offline for a while...
I have a question, I had 6 SFH eggs under a broody (who is doing a terrific job) but today when I checked on her one of the eggs was open at day 18, with a not quite done dead chick, do you think broody mama somehow...
I will be there! I am bringing my BLRW roo for karen and the SFH roo I hatched from Wildhorseannie eggs!
Just got 8 SFH eggs from wildhorseannie for my constantly broody Astrolorp!!! Big Bertha is so happy to have real eggs instead of a single dog chewed plastic egg!
This is a older photo, they have very red combs now....but that makes me feel much better. Thank you!!!!!
It would help if my current hens would stop going broody!!!
heeellllloooo...
I have been lurking for a bit, and I have a question.
I have 2 partridge barred rock pullets that are 25 weeks each, still no eggs from those silly chickens...what age have most starting to lay????
the combs reddened up about 3-4 weeks ago.
Karen my boy is 18 weeks and is still super sweet, however I have 2 year old hens that beat up on him regularly and 3- 22 week pullets (grrrrr how are they not laying by now!!!) that also stomp him reguarly. He is huge, he towers over all the hens and is kind of a dufus.
here is a update on the boy I got from Karen
Every molt the red gets darker, his wing tips and a little on his chest isa little orangey however those are the spots he has not gotten new feathers lately.
That is the problem with mine. Obsessive about herding the chickens and when one does not go back with the group....as soon as he grabs one then they turn into a squeaky toy for him.
Here are the 2 beautiful ones I lost, I think I bring the other 2 to Gilmanor to sell.
The boy and girl I might bring to the Gilmanor VA Swap
the idiot I am very frustrated with
Ducks are messy and not for me at this time, the main problem is he obsesses on the chickens all day long. I need to find something else for him to obsess about...
GGGGRRRRRRR AAAAAARRRGH
I think I might give up on SFH. I got 8 eggs, 4 hatched. now my insane 6 month border collie has killed both my mille fleur SFH. Of course the 2 he has gotten (one today, one a couple weeks ago) were both pullets, the rooster is safe and sound.
The problem is the SFHs...
That is not fun at all. having chicken children is tough, my husband and I are just realizing how attached you can get to some silly chickens..
I hope that they can improve.
