Here I am! My gals are doing great, had a busy few years! Moved from Hacienda Heights just over the hill to La Habra Heights, where i grew up. I needed to make the Fort Knox of all coops to keep the preds out! Coyote, owls, hawks...everyone wants to eat my girls! It's basically a chain link coop...

    Alternative to Scratch feed???

Is mixed bird seed okay to use as a base to make my own scratch? They seem to have lots of the same ingredients. I add dried mealworms, hemp seeds, instant oats, raisins and more cracked corn, but need to increase their protein for a short time due to aggression bordering on cannibalism. I have...

Little Wing, I'll see you in Austin in about 15 years when we retire! I like/ earned my pension and don't want the state of California taxing me on it again when I start to draw on it as income. Gonna have a nice little ranch with my chucks and horses, bear arms and vote with like-minded folks...

Ozexpat...What an adventure! Your place looks like a garden paradise...maganda!! Godspeed to you and your next batch of eggs. Will you eventually be a permanent resident of the Philippines or do you always travel back and forth? Do they not have the variety of breeds we do here?

Review by '' on item 'Plymouth Rock'

I am a new chicken Momma with four 11 week old BR pullets. Have had them four weeks. They are funny, silly and like therapy to sit and watch. They play keep away with a grape even if there are 20 more for each one! They seem desperate to get out and range but we have no safe set-up yet, it's in...

The girls went CRAZY for ALOE! Is it healthy?

So a foot long spear of an aloe plant broke off and I decided to see if my 10 week old BR pullets like it. I broke it into big chunks, and before I could even get my hand in the run, they were grabbing it! Gloppy globs of clear thick aloe juice dripping from their beaks like snotty nosed kids...

What's going on when they exhibit this squatting behavior while also "poofing" out head and neck feathers, spreading wings? The catch is my girls are only 10 WEEKS old! All Barred Rock pullets. Are they just practicing the behavior as they mature? They don't do it for long.

4 Barred Rocks - Lads or Lassies?? 9 weeks old - PICS

New chicken Momma here...I had to choose four pullets from a flock of six week olds based on advice given on many BYC forums. Went with more black than white, black wash down the front of the legs and no comb growth at that point. They are NINE WEEKS old as shown here today. How did I do? Leg...
