2 of my red sex links, 1 Easter Egger and 1 SLW are looking redder on their heads every day! They are 16 weeks, hoping they'll start in the next month :)
We have 2 RIR/Dominique cross hens that are 8 months old. In a few weeks we will be combining them with our younger flock of 13 (Easter Eggers, Silver Laced Wyandottes and Red Sex Links), once they are all on the same food. There are 5 Roos and 8 Pullets in the younger flock. They have been...
One of my Dom/RIR hens quit laying after we put our roosters in the freezer. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I know which one it is (there are only 2). They are both 7 months old. These are our first chickens so we are newbies.
Okay I can't find a good place to ask this question, so I'm going with here because this thread gets a lot of feedback :)
This weekend we will be getting two new pullets (they are prob around 15-17 weeks old)from a friend. The catch is we have to transport them 7.5-8 hours in our backseat. I...
We have 2 RIR/Dominique crosses that are a little over 6 months old. They have been laying since mid April (about a month). This past weekend we put the two roos that were with them in the freezer (they were evil). Since then we have only gotten one egg a day. We had been getting two a day with...

After we found it, I did go out and put a plastic egg in the box. "Borrowed" it from my 3 yr old's toy kitchen set (she has at least 5 plastic eggs, so one won't be missed) ;-)
We got an egg today!!!! BUT it was not in the nest box, it was on the ground...any suggestions why or how to prevent this? I know they use the boxes, they have spots wallowed out in them. (I can't post a picture, don't have access to a computer, just my phone) :D
Yeah, lucky until tourist season. We stay as far away from there as possible during the summer. We've only lived here a little over a year. Lived in Rock Hill before that, Georgia for a while, but originally from NC.
Thank you. My daughter got it for her birthday less than a month ago. The one we have left is now under house arrest at night. Luckily we had just bought a new batch of chicks on Saturday and shes been occupied with them, so she hasn't been to upset about it.
