Thanks Donna. I have been putting apple cider vinegar in their water so keep build up off the waterer and to help against worms. I didn't know vinegar could help against mites also.

I forgot that a couple of days before both my hens died, their combs were lighter than normal. I have dusted the shavings in their coop and their pen in sevin dust. And also them. Is there anywhere else that I should dust for mites?

The chance of anemia sounds more in line with the symptoms she had. She had been acting a little offbeat for a little over a week. I thought she might have been getting picked on. Then she started with her puffed up feathers this morning.

Thank you guys! How can I tell if they have mites (what do they look like)? I will check them for that first and then go from there. We keep sevin dust on hand so I may go ahead and put it where they like to dust at. Will they work. It's hard to catch my roo so I thought that might be easier.

I had one hen and a young rooster die with the same symptoms. I wormed them with a drop of the safeguard horse wormer (was told it killed pretty much all the worms). We also put them on an antibiotic for a couple of days also. I don't have anymore that are showing any symptoms right now but I am...

I'm not sure if that is what it is. I have had at least 2 other hens show the same symptoms in the past 3 or 4 months and they passed. She has lasted longer than the other two. I would take them to a vet, but even in rural Alabama I can't find one that works with chickens. Just normal pets...

My buff hen is acting sluggish. She is the second girl that has done this. We usually feed them a little bread and they go crazy over it. She will hardly even touch it. This has been going on for about a week now. Her stool is really green and pretty runny. She is acting lethargic. I think she...

    Sick Girl! Need help!

I have an Easter Egger that is acting funny. She is eating and drinking, but she is not acting like herself. She stuck her whole face down in the watering tray this morning to drink. She is also acting mopey, cough/sneezing, and she had a coating of black slimy/solid film over her whole beak...

    Broken Toe

I have a four month old Buff Orpington that has somehow broken her toe. She can walk some, but mostly only to turn herself around to a different position then she lays back down. I don't want to put her down because she is one of the few my two year old cousin can play with and she loves the...
