one thing about grilling venison(or reindeer, as my 2 1/2 YO loves to call it) is that it will dry out rather quickly compared to, say, feed lot beef(vs grassfed)- it is way leaner than most beef, so you need to cook it for a shorter time. also maybe put a tray of water under the grill first...
I have one that I made from a 1 qt heated dog dish and a gallon jug. I wrapped the jug w/ a 9 ft pipe heat tape, and made a wire harness for it so it hangs upside down in the dish. if you don't need heat, it would be even easier.
Cool project.
not sure if you have your roof figured out yet, but one earth covered home that I worked on used bituthane 3000 from grace company. it is perfect for below grade application, it was applied directly to 3/4 plywood which needed to be primed w/ a special primer first. I'd guess...
well, these birds are full grown layers, have free range of the 40x80 backyard, and I have been giving them some whole corn for a few days, they seem alright with it. none have dropped dead w/ a crop full of corn, anyways:rolleyes:
Good reading there, and thanks for the link to Hy View- I have...
so A buddy just dropped off a bunch of organic dry whole corn- like 7 5 gal pails. is it ok to feed, or do I need to grind it?
also got whole oats, barley, rice, wheat, and millet.
I imagine the rice should be cooked, then fed?
it is all surplus from an armageddon Y2K warehouse which is 10+...
you could get a 55gal barrel cheep or free, and add a gravity fed water bowl to it- they bowls are under $10 at fleetfarm, I bet TSC is similar$
That is my plan for the summer months- it'll be good for the dog, too. I will prolly fill it w/ rain water run-off.
I only have 3 birds, but this is my setup.
I got a small electric pet dish- it has a 25 watt heater which is thermostatically controlled, holds a quart. I wanted more capacity, so I used a 1 gallon jug, wrapped it with a 9 ft long 18 watt pipe heat tape which I already had(cost about $10, as I...
so I was re-reading the thread and I have a thought about using 120V drill as a power source for the door, as I have several of them. reversing them would be easy. using allthread as a screw drive to open and close a guillotine door.
but what about relays, etc for household current? I think...
well, I made it to axman surplus today and got 2 each of NC and NO micro switches, 'cause I have not figured out which one will be better yet.
I also am not for sure on relays and stuff- maybe someone here can help me w/ that part. I want it to be 100% 12V, so I can use my solar panel and a...
forgive me if this Idea has been brought up already- I was following the thread for the first few pages, but have not gotten thru them all yet.
I am really wanting an automatic chicken door, and I really will never spend $200 on one, and I like recycling. I already have a decent size solar...
thanks- I am in so mpls, and have looked at fleet farm's stuff- just was looking for other options, too.
basically like a heated dog bowl- that is one option I've considered.
I only have 3 birds, so far.
I can run power to them, and will have to to keep them in water for the winter. but I...

Where's your local feed store?
I am in the twin cities, too, and looking for something to make winter watering easier...
I am currently using a qt mason jar. last time I was in fleet farm, I saw a 3 qt calf bottle that had a mason jar neck on it, so it fits the waterer.
It was cheep-...
I may be able to make it.
I think SW MN sounds like a fairly central place for peeps from MN, IA, ND, SD, etc.....
Maybe once details are set, PM anyone that has replied to this post??
thanks.
