She passed away earlier this afternoon. I knew I was just treating it to make her comfortable. She really did very well until a few days ago, when I could see she was getting uncomfortable again, but the swelling was not as low as usual or even as much...
Please help! I successfully treated this duck for ascites for several months, but now she is gasping (pressure on organs?) and all I got out was a blood clot when I tried to drain her this time!

Drained her again earlier tonight. Just about 5.5 oz this time because she got a bit squirmy. She pooped as soon as the hubby put her down, so that's probably why. I hope it was enough to make her comfortable for awhile.
Did it. Went smoothly, fluid looks just like in the video. Drained out about 12 oz. I think there is still quite a bit in there, so in a couple of days we'll probably have to do it again...
That has crossed my mind too, but aside from soaking (which I've done) I don't know what to do for that... She's never had a problem before, but a few weeks ago her sister was predated. I wonder if depression/stress could have weakened her immune system which is why I was looking for Duramycin...
I have a duck who is about 7 years old. I noticed her "hanging low" about a week ago-as if she were about to lay...but she has not and the swelling has significantly worsened. There are no visible injuries. Sometimes it feels kind of spongy, sometimes more hard. I tried gently feeling inside her...
Dogs can be awesome, but be aware that if they're not raised with birds, they often see them as prey. Our Cu (a Shepherd/Retriever mix) was wonderful with our flock; we never had a problem with any predator setting foot on our property until about 2 weeks after he passed away, last summer. Then...
I have 3 chickens (2 roo's & 1 hen) I inspected them carefully today, and found nothing. I've noticed when turning stuff over in the yard that while the ducks eat most bugs, they just ignore arachnids. I was kind of hoping that the oils on their feathers would deter parasites...
That looks very similar to my roosters butt right now. He is about 10 months old, and started losing tail-feathers last week. I had to remove him from the flock because the girls were pecking him terribly. I kept him in for about 3 days and then applied Blue Kote. Unfortunately, the day after...
Thanks! I will try the peas. I found a "McMurray Hatchery" on line that says their day-olds will be available mid-Feb. I worry about them being shipped, though...anyone have experience with this company?
