Sorry, been gone for a while. I think I ordered the micro switches and wafer thermostats from GA Quail Farm. They have an online catalog. The light is an LED under-cabinet light I had left over from a renovation. The mounting bracket was a piece of aluminum angle that I had. The fuseholder and...
Sorry. Haven't been back here in quite a while. Are you asking about the shelf that the water pan sits on? Mine is actually a metal road sign that the previous owners used in it. Just measure the width and depth of your cabinet where it slides in.
Because I've been too busy to check in regularly. Processing, incubating, brooding, moving tractors, and it's mowing season. Planting food plots.
Broody ducks are cutting into my egg money. I hope they hatch them out. I'd rather them raise them.
I don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but the...
You're right, that was probably the name of the feed or seed company on the burlap.
I'd be interested in what your neighbors have to say.
A little google searching and I think your incubator was originally sold by Sears & Roebuck. No idea who manufactured it. Several companies made them for...
It was a stroke of luck that the name of the hardware store that sold my original incubator was painted on the bottom of the box. I did a lot of google searching to compare the manufacturing company dates and models with the history of the hardware store.
You may be able to find some images of...
Your's is a little different from the one's I've seen. The rod above the electrical box is not a wafer thermostat. I think it is the thermostat, but I'm not sure what kind it is.
With the wafer's, turn the screw clockwise decreases the temperature.
Look back the the original post photos and...
What Connie said.
I live west of Atlanta and typically incubate chicken and quail at around 35%. Then bump it to 55-60% for lockdown.
You didn't say, are the incubators still air or do they have fans?
And you do want 2 additional thermometer/hygrometers. I've found that the little electronic...
Inside the top there should be a copper pipe about 1.5 - 2" diameter that goes around and connects to the reservoir on the outside. A kerosene burner sits under the reservoir. It heats the water which circulates through the pipe providing heat to the incubator.
The rod and counter-balance on the...
I got the last of the Cornish X finished this weekend. 200 pounds of pastured poultry in the freezer, plus assorted necks, livers and feet.
With a little tweaking to the system I was able to process 2 birds every 30 minutes working alone. When I got finished, I was like "I need more birds!"
OK @Flowerbh , here's a pic of some of my chickens!
We processed 30 of the Cornish cross this weekend. They were 8 weeks old. Cockerels were around 6.5 lbs live weight and pullets were 5.5 lbs. Average dressed weight for the lot was 4.7 lbs.
I added a power strip to the inside of mine to plug in the turners.
Only one of my trays had the metal wires, the rest had wood dowels crossing the tray. I removed the dowels so the turners would sit in the tray.
The original turners were a U shaped heavy wire with a strip of sheet metal across...
That's awesome!! Congratulations. If you have any questions about it, send me a message. I'd be glad to help out. Since I'm not around during the day to do hand turning, I use an Incuturn turner and a Hovabator turner. If my schedule were such that I could, I would make a couple of the hand...
I watched Craigslist and ebay for about a year before I found one priced right close enough to me. I also showed photos of one to a couple of estate sale/antique people I know.
Good luck finding one. I absolutely love using mine.
Sorry, I've been on the road for a couple of days.
You've got an old kerosene heated incubator. There were several manufacturers of these and Lehman's still sells one similar to this.
I bought and restored one last year. Here's my article about it...
Underwriters Laboratories is not the manufacturer. They just provide verification that the product was safe to use when it was manufactured.
Post some photos and we'll be able to help you.
Congratulations! I've restored 2 antique incubators and I love using them. I've got articles on my profile page describing what I did.
First, you should assume that the red paint is lead based and take precautions when messing with it. If you do decide to strip it, I would not re-paint it. Give...
