Thanks all. I'm not sure if it is coincidence or just perfect timing but we gave her some elecgtrolytes yesterday - forced her off and "took her for a walk" - took the eggs away and today she is out and about! Hopefully they are done laying so she doesn't become preoccupied again but thank you!!!-
We have 3 geese - all female - all layers - none will hatch. One goose stays on the nest almost constantly and will not get off unless forced. we remove the eggs - we make her get off - its at the point where she can barely walk from sitting. We have even destroyed the nest and she rebuilt...
We have recently found out that the lake we live on (near a joint base) - is contaminated with PFAO's from years ago usage of the firefighting foams. They still stock this lake for fishing but have stated that people should not eat the native fish. This lake is 1/3 to half of our geese's...
Yesterday he was attached by a neighbor dog. He flew into our lake but the dog got him and drug him out. The neighbor got them apart - but unfortunately the whole top of his crow was bitten off. We may have to put him down. We have him crated in the house and are medicating the wounds but...
We are down to one guinea from 6. He is definitely lonely but also aggressive. He was the boss even with all alive. Just wondering if we should get more for him (and the tick problem) - if he will settle down. He literally follows my husband constantly pecking at him. He even flies onto his...
Wow we have one left as well - a male! He has become very aggressive towards my husband but we don't know if getting more will help as he is 3 years old. They certainly do help with the tick population though!
Thanks! She's been clear since - both eyes! We do want to add some electolytes to their water tho - and may I ask where you get the terramycin? Our agway and tractor supply no longer will carry antibiotics.
Noticed one of my saddlebacks shaking her head and her one eye had discharge in it..we wiped it away and will check her tomorrow. Anyone have this happen?
Thank you. Unfortunately whatever it was took less than a day to take her down. U of penn and our large animal vet think fungal infection which they said is fast acting. But really we will never know. The antibiotics are good to know tho. Can we buy otc? May do good to have some on hand. Our...
Burst of cold in NJ - could it be the cause? She will not move. wont eat or drink. she is alert. labored breathing like a child with a cold. small amount liquid coming out of beak like a runny nose. Brought her in the house until I can figure it out. she let me pick her up and carry her...
Came home from work today to find that we have two mute swans on our lake. My husband called them and they actually crossed the lake and came up on our shore. We fed them grain (we have African and saddleback geese as pets) - and they let us sit two feet away for about an hour.
They seem so...
help please with a guinea. broken wing. we wrapped it as in the diagram someone share
d. should he be able to walk now? He keeps falling over on the side of the broken wing. His feel and legs, however, seem fine.
We have four geese that we purchased at our local agway 3 years ago. Two are African Greys and two are Saddlebacks. The Africans are definitely the more aggressive and more like watchdogs. The saddlebacks are beautiful though with their blue eyes. They are calmer and friendlier. Hope that...
yes we have noticed them prior to them sitting with behavior in the water of what seems to be mating. On top of one another, the goose on top will actually hold the others' head under water.
We will give it through the weekend surely it will have been over 30 days of constant sitting - and...
I don't want to sound like an amateur, although i am, but i don't know if we have a gander. the amount of eggs got so out of hand and i know we had at least 3 of the four laying. We just tonight removed some of the older eggs that have fallen out of the nest. the remaining eggs are very very...
Our geese (2 Africans, 2 Saddlebacks) have laid over 100 eggs between them, starting in late February. The first 50 or so eggs we removed once they were in the next for awhile and not being tended to. However, the last 50 or so remain, and now the geese are sitting constantly, to the point of...
