    Chick Eye Problem

Hello, one of my chicks has developed an eye problem (see pic). It seems that two ducklings in with the chicks have the same issue. I have never experienced this before. What is it and how do I treat it?? Also, what causes it? Could it be the ducks spilling water? Thanks!!

    Duck Eye Problem

Hello, I noticed today that one of my young ducks (about 3 wks old) has some crustiness around it's eye. Also, it's eyelid seems to have more flesh exposed above it's eye than normal. Some of my chicks have the same problem. What is wrong? How do I treat it? Thanks!!

    Quail with Chickens??

Hello! I have successfully raised both Guinea and Ducks within my chicken flock. Has anybody tried jumbo coturnix quail? I have bantams, so there really wouldn't be a huge size difference.

    Blind Chicken in Michigan Winter

Hi all, I have a blind chicken who is in isolation because she was getting abused by the flock. I was planning on keeping her in an old rabbit hutch that has one side open and the other three covered. Will she be ok in here over our long Michigan winter??

    Thistle as feed

I was recently given some thistle seed by a lady moving into a condo that doesn't allow bird feeders. Can I feed this to my chickens? Should I spread it on the ground or mix it with feed??

    Prolapsed Oviduct Comes Back Worse!?

So, one of my chickens had prolapsed oviduct. I separated her from the flock for a week, pushed it back in when necessary, gave her very little food, and plenty of water (with apple cider vinegar). It seemed fine so she went back w/ the flock. Now, I separated her because a around 1" by 2"...

    Training My Dog

Hi, we recently got a lab/(probably beagle) mix dog. He is going to be an full-time outdoor dog. I need advice on training him. My family has had two other dogs that have been full-time outdoors and lived to 12+ years. They were very well trained so I'm hoping I can get him there in a few years...

Training My Dog Not to Kill the Chickens

Hi all, I recently got a 6 month old lab/(probably beagle) mix. I have been able to teach my past dogs to behave around chickens but wanted advice for how to train him. He really just wants to smell them but then they start to flap around and he gets aggressive. He only pays attention to them...

    Is my dog part pitbull?

Hi all, We were told when we bought this dog that he was a lab mix (most likely some beagle too) but now everyone who sees him thinks he looks like he has some pitbull in him. This worries me because I have nieces and a nephew. What are some signs that a dog has pit in him? I'll post pictures...

    Leghorn Genetics and Personality Questions

Hi all, I have some California Grey Leghorn hens (I have other chickens also) and am planning on getting more hens and a rooster. If I breed them, will their offspring lay as well as the parents? I guess my OEGB has to go broody first! Another question: Are Leghorn roosters more aggressive than...

    Quail Question

Hi all, I just had a question about my quail. If my OEGB hen decides to go broody, my Coturnix quail decide to start laying again, and I get a new male Coturnix (my last two died) would I be able to incubate quail eggs under a chicken? Are the temperatures the same? Will it offer even a small...

    What was the predator?

Hi, a couple nights ago I had a chicken injured greatly. It was about 4:00 or 5:00 a.m. when it happened. The skin on the chickens back was hanging and her comb looked to be gone. She had to be put down. There were no tracks when I looked (mostly because it rained a lot). What could this animal...

My quail's head is really bloody!

I have Coturnix three quail, one male and two females. One of the females has a bloody head with many of the feathers missing. This seems to be coming from the male. The other female also has some head feathers missing. What to do? Should I isolate the male? Will he ever be able to go back in...

    Do You Disinfect Your Coop?

Hi, I was just wondering how many people disinfected their coop. I'm trying to decide if I should do it annually. It seems like it would just get dirty and full of germs the next day. Thanks!

    Broody Quit on the Nest

My OEGB hen recently went broody in a secluded nest. I have her some eggs and she layed on them for about ten days then quit. I wasn't bothering her at all. Why would she just stop?

Can I start them on layer feed?

Hi, my new batch of chicks are between 12 and 15 weeks of age and are a variety of different breeds. I am going on a week trip soon and was wondering if I could put them in with my big chickens because the chicks feed and water containers won't last them. I am also out of starter feed. Will...

    Rooster Loosing Tail Feathers. Mites?

My 15 or so month old Silver Laced Wyandotte rooster is loosing its tail feathers and a few feathers on its chest. I looked him over good in both of the spots. His tail had tiny black specs, but they weren't moving and they didn't appear to have legs. There weren't a ton of these specs, but...
