Hi everyone, with today being the first day of fall, I can't help but wonder If there's anything in particular I should do for my girls. In the winter the overnight lows can get as low as the 20's and during the day it can be in the 40's. This will be my first winter with my girls so I really...
I know that this was posted two years ago, but just wondering if you happen to remember how long you gave your hen vitamin B. My hen Ethel, I noticed that she had a slight limp so I started her on vitamin B, but just not sure how long I should give it to her and how long did it take for you to...
I've read that giving hens frozen watermelon helps keep them cool but they have no interest in it, could I put it in their waterer to see if they get use to the taste?
It's weird because I was with them all day and they were fine. The one thing I can think of is she was scratching by fence line. The root of I neighbor's tree runs right underneath my fence and there's a little opening. She may have stuck her head there and may have injured it accidentally. I...
Being a new chicken mom, I worry about every little thing that comes to my girls. With that being said this evening I noticed that there was dried blood around my 15 wk old chicken. I just for in from cleaning it with a wet rag. To my knowledge I have noticed them pecking each other but I did...
Thank you chickenwings! Believe it or not, I don't get much wees growing around my garden or plants, so pulling them is not a problem. Plus it allows me to spend some quality time with the girls
No I'm not asking what is on my chicks mind. I'm questioning that behavior. I've never been around chickens before. This is my first time and I don't know much about them. What I've learned so far has been on this and my pet chickens website.
My yard is probably about 2500 sqft 800 or 900 of that is lawn and I have planet boxes where I have my veggie garden. When I first moved into my house I used round up and had pesticides sprayed on the outside of my house. Shortly after that my two cats developed asthma and I've had a headache...
Hi everyone,
I have a question about chicken behavior and itching.
I've noticed that when I allow my girls to roam they run around which is I assume normal but often they charge each other and the feathers on their head gets all fluffed out. What does that mean?
Another question has to do...
what you described is the same as what I have but different brand of course. I have a litre bottle so I will start by using 1/2 a tsp and see how they take to it.
Hi everyone, I read that apple cider vinegar is good for the chickens. How much ACV should I use in a 1 litre bottle of water? I just bought a soda bottle converter as the waterer I currently have is galvanized steel and from what I understand ACV will cause errosion to the water.
Thanks, Rania
I would never use round up. I'm too afraid that it will cause harm to the chickens and the stray cats that come in my yard. After I posted this question I read that organic compost will fertilize as well. With the chicken poop. Should I put it on my lawn and water it?
Hello, every spring I use weed and feed on my lawn in my backyard. Now that I have chickens, I'm not sure if it would be a wise thing to do. Does anyone know of a safe and organic way I can fertilize my lawn with out causing any harm to my chickens?
Thanks in advance.
Rania
Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I've had my girls for almost two weeks now and I'm amazed at how quickly they are adapting and getting comfortable in their new home. I had the day off work today and had a project that I'm working on in my yard. While I was out there I let them roam and...
Thank you. When it comes dust baths they are currently going in my veggie beds. I did set up a kiddie pool with spoil that they slowly migrating to but not enough for a dust bath. Will the D.E. harm my veggies? I want to keep it as organic as possible?
