Hello again folks. We have 3 Gold Laced Wyandotte cockerels that need to find a new home. They're almost 10 wks old and are in good health. Will sell for $8 each, or preferably trade all 3 for a egg-laying/dual-purpose breed pullet.
PM me if interested. Pics available upon request.
Yeah, they're Wyandottes. Three of our six have that "odd" single comb. Then again we did get them from TSC. Strangely though, I'm pretty sure they're all pullets, even the one that has a rather large comb. Of those with a rose comb, two are very red compared to the others, and their wattles...
Our nest box is 6" off the floor and roost is at 24" stretching the 4' across our coop (ours is 3'x4'). I think that setup will be fine for you though you have 2 more birds to contend with, so they may get a little crowded on there. If it's possible, I would maybe do two roosting bars 12" apart...
I have no experience with ducks so I can't be of much help, but I hope you get it figured out and the little guy does okay. Sending good vibes your way...
I don't think it's that the "well to do" places are accepting. I think it's more that it's never been an issue thus there is no ordinance banning it. There was recently a segment on Good Day Alabama about raising backyard chickens. And a few of the local municipalities ordinances were given; a...
All is Palm,
We're in Crestwood. The Birmingham City ordinance states: All poultry housing is to be at least 100 ft from any residential dwelling and 15 ft away from property boundaries (I think they're pretty lax about distances so long as the birds aren't a nuisance). Maximum flock size is...
Dig the coop. Looks similar to the one I'm building.
Overall it's 8'x4' and slopes from 3.5' to 4.5" over run. Coop sits 24" off ground with pop door exiting through the floor, and is 4'x3'x4' sloping to 3'. Nest box placement is like yours is; 24"x14"x15-12" with a divider in the center to...
We're in Crestwood.
No I've heard of it, just hoping that it's merely a myth.
We live 5 minutes from downtown Birmingham, so you can do that math. We have neighbors 15 ft away on either side, so the yard is fairly small. Even if we went completely chicken-crazy we don't have enough land to...
I personally think you have 4 pullets and 2 cockerels judging from the "bird's eye" pick. I'm judging solely on the shape of the tail feathers, as I don't think coloring is as sex-related in most feed store chicks as it is in breeder chicks. And not size of the feathering or speed of the...
Greetings from Birmingham. A little new to this,
but have 6 GLWs hanging out in the guest room.
They're about 2.5 weeks old now
Here's a pic of the coop I'm building. Only plan on keeping 3 hens.
Unfortunately, that's not really big enough, especially if they are going to spend most of their time in their coop/run. If you plan on letting them free range at least an hour or so a day you might can live with that size. But given the birds you have, you need about 12sq.ft of coop and 30sq.ft...
If you give us more details of your circumstances it would be easier to advise you.
But the basics:
For Large Fowl 4sq.ft of coop space, 10 sq.ft of run space per bird. For bantams I'd go with 3 and 8.
Provide plenty of roost space. 12" per bird is recommended for LF I'd say 8 or 9 would be...
Check out the coop I'm building in this thread. I'm building it for three hens, but you could make yours a little bigger if you like. And I think it would still be pretty simple. I'm much more of a mechanic than a carpenter but I think it's coming along ok and I only have about $250 into it so...
