    What are you baking now?

Snoozle, Please do not compare those lovely, yummy looking homemade savory pastrys to hot pockets. I am sure yours are so much better and healthier than a hot pocket....

    What are you baking now?

Well, they aren't baked yet. I just finished a couple of batches of cookie dough. They are chilling in the fridge until tomorrow night. Then I'll scoop out cookie portions, freeze and store the frozen cookie dough balls until we want a batch of freshly baked homemade cookies. From my King...

    Not eggbound? What is it?

I am so sorry to hear that. There most likely nothing that you could have done for her. But, you did your best to make her as comfortable as you could. You are to be commended.

THIS DAMP weather is KILLING my BIRDS suggestions?

Last year I had to toss a couple of hundred pounds of layer feed because of mold. If you are purchasing feed by the bag, buy only as much as you are going to feed in a week or so. Store that in your house to keep it out of the high humidity. Only put as much feed out as they will eat in an...

Chicks hatched one with problems...Pic included.. Help needed

I keep a medium clear tote, with a small waterer, food dish and heat lamp and bedding ready when I hatch. There always seems to be a special needs chick or turkey. When one makes its problem known, I put it and a companion, usually a smaller bird, in the CICU or TICU. Most have recovered...

Bourbon Red turkeys sick and dying

No, do not feed your turkeys medicated feed. I have never fed my chickens or turkeys medicated feed. The chicks I have gotten from MMM were vacinated, but none of the birds I have hatched myself received any medication. I have never had a large loss of birds. The worst I have ever lost was 6...

Bourbon Red turkeys sick and dying

I have never had a worm problem either. For the most part all the birds free ranged in several fenced paddocks. When I am home I would let the older chickens and turkeys out in a portable hot fence. I don't know if I have just been lucky or what.

Bourbon Red turkeys sick and dying

Me either. But they don't mind being out in the rain. My Black Jersery Giant hens would not venture out in the snow, but my turkeys didn't mind it at all.

Bourbon Red turkeys sick and dying

I have always heard that turkeys don't do well if they get cold and wet. I also told that the quickest way to kill baby turkeys is to give them cold water to drink. Sometimes there is no answer as to why they died. I had a couple drop dead on me. I think one flew into a post trying to get off...

Bourbon Red turkeys sick and dying

Just an FYI. I have raised turkeys and chickens together for 4 years. I have never had any problems with blackhead. But I have had very few problems with my flocks. The worst thing that has happened was a couple of my birds were egg bound and my turkeys did get fowl pox one fall. All...

    Chicks Dropping Like Flies

I have had many chicks eat their bedding and none showed any harm. It very well may be that this chick had a twisted intestine. That would account for the heaving after eating or drinking, because nothing was passing thru. You did nothing wrong. Not every chick makes it to hatching, not every...

Brinsea Incubator for sale, Columbia MO

Brinsea Octagon 20 Advantage with automatic humidifier. I have decided to stop raising chicks for sale, so my incubater that was used a total of 6 times, and is in excellent condition, is for sale. I will even toss in a small waterer and a feeded that you screw onto a quart jar. If you live...

We processed and ate our first chicken

Quote: So...I have a bunch that need to be processed and I can't make myself do it...wanna do mine? I need to find a processor here. If there are Amish in your area, sometimes they will process your poultry for you. Honestly, doing it yourself is not that bad. I cannot eat chicken on the...

Chicks arrived alive, now 3 are in chick heaven!?

You really should contact the place you got them from. Sounds to me like they were ill when you got them. My Pet Chicken should at least refund your money. I would not purchase any more from them this year. A couple of years ago several hatcheries had outbreaks of some avian illness and lost...

    question

I can't let mine out in the run yet, but I have not had the heat lamp on my 3 wk chicks and poults for several days because it have been above 90 every day. The appear and act fine. Be sure they cannot get out of the run, and make sure they have shade also.

    Okay ordering meat chickens again

From everything I have read and heard, you will not get a "meatie". Those birds are not meant to live much past 8 weeks. The longer they live, the heavier they get. That ups the chance that they will die from heart failure or suffer from leg problems. And these birds have short little legs...

Culled hen, found these inside, WHAT R THEY?????

I had a White Midget hen that was looking poorly for a few days. I finally caught her and felt her belly. I felt what I was sure was a very large egg. After consulting someone on another forum, who by the way just happened to live up the road, it was decided the egg was going to be way to...

    Egg bound midget white hen

After speaking with Ivan, I decided to go ahead and put Knuckle Head down. I could feel the egg and it was going to be too large for her to pass, so no sense in prolonging her misery. I did an autopsy, or whatever you call it when you try to determine the problem with a turkey. Sorry Ivan...
