Yes or No on Diatomaceous Earth??

I just saw everybodies replies :) Thank you! I will get some PDZ for inside the coop, Does TSC sell it? I will use my DE for the dust bath so it doesn't go to waste.

Yes or No on Diatomaceous Earth??

Okay thank you very much! So I will just hold on to it then instead of returning it. At what age do they like to start dust bathing?

Yes or No on Diatomaceous Earth??

I was in TSC early this morning grabbing some odds and ends for my chickens and saw some DE and remembered reading somewhere that it is good for everything and can be used in their feed, coop bedding, dust bath, etc. So i bought some. I did a little more research and am getting mixed vibes on...

Sick chicks, what I do about it.

My little chick has been up wandering around the brooder every now and then but it seems that one of its eyes is injured because it is always shut :( it is still very lethargic though and mostly in the corner alone. I picked it up and dipped its beak in some sugar/honey water and it drank...

Help! How to deal with little kids holding chicks!

A well behaved 5 year old will obey but that doesn't mean she is not going to be sad and not continue to ask every time she thinks about them. Children are very hard to reason with :/ I love her and have been looking forward to her visit for many months. Rather than just telling her no it's...

Help! How to deal with little kids holding chicks!

Good idea, they are friendly and just getting out of the skittish stage into the very curious stage. She was really trying to get one to perch on her finger which i know they will have none of that business lol so i think them eating from her hand is right up her alley. I don't think she would...

Help! How to deal with little kids holding chicks!

Thank you, those are some great suggestions and very well put! I have been unable to fall asleep tonight because i don't want to hurt any feelings over the chicks and also don't want any chicks to get hurt if they haven't already :( I think they went through quite a bit of stress this afternoon...

    Tragedy Strikes!

Oh no! So sorry about your chicks :( I have noticed our dog is very timid around ours and she sometimes acts as if she is already in trouble for something she hasn't done (yet). But as soon as I tell her its okay and that she's a good dog it seems like she gets all jumpy and runs back and forth...

Help! How to deal with little kids holding chicks!

That is so darn cute!! If she lived close by i would definitely have to make her something like that, but they live 6 hrs away :( Next time they visit the little chickies will be outside where they can run away from her lol

Help! How to deal with little kids holding chicks!

Yes she understands that she can get sick from them, she has sanitized and washed her little hands so much today they are raw :( so i know she is trying to be good and listen. I think a cover on their brooder is a great idea! A couple of or chicks are older and are trying to escape anyways. My...

Is an age gap a problem?

The younger ones are 10 days old and the bantams just aren't growing very fast. The big RIR and EE are growing much faster than i expected. I am not exactly sure what the age is on them, they were both in separate bins at TSC

Is an age gap a problem?

I have 9 chickies total, 4 banties, 2 RIR, 2 barred rocks and an EE. One of my reds is 2 weeks older than the others and the EE is probably almost two weeks older as well so they are bigger than the rest, rir is almost six times the size of my smallest little runt bantam. The past couple days...
