Silver Lace Wynadotte - Updated Pictures! - "She" is 6 Weeks old Now - What Gender?

I want to see some new pictures of your Lacey! How does she look now? Our Flash is finally starting to look a little more "normal". I can't wait until she's full grown!

Silver Lace Wynadotte - Updated Pictures! - "She" is 6 Weeks old Now - What Gender?

I know, I know. It's just hard to imagine this crazy looking bird turning out that spectacular. She is just so wild looking, which matches her behavior. We love her, but she is SO skittish. I should note, that her comb and wattles are not normally this red. They are usually a peach color...

Silver Lace Wynadotte - Updated Pictures! - "She" is 6 Weeks old Now - What Gender?

Here's our 7 weeker, Flash. I'm pretty sure she is a girl, as her neck is almost white. She has funky feathers, so I doubt she'll ever look as amazing as yours, Mama Hen Chris! I simply love your little lady!

Is my large, bossy, fully-combed girl actually a rooster?

Pretty sure there are saddle feathers in that last shot, too.

Is my large, bossy, fully-combed girl actually a rooster?

Beautiful bird. With a face like that, I would think it would have to be a rooster!

What breed of chicken are my 2 "mystery" chicks?

Ah. I'm sure mine is just not show quality. My little bantam's feet are as pale as my buff orpington's! :-)

What breed of chicken are my 2 "mystery" chicks?

    Weeeellll, mine doesn't. :-).

What breed of chicken are my 2 "mystery" chicks?

I'm thinking Leghorn. Don't most Welsummers have pale, pale pink legs?

Please help us settle this once and for all!

I should point out that the crowing that sent this bird to the feed store in the first place was NOT from this bird. It was a Cornish rooster that we had just assumed was a hen. This bird has never made a peep!

Please help us settle this once and for all!

We purchased this bird from the feed store at a week or two old. Around 8 weeks we heard crowing, and assumed it was this bird, so we dropped it off at the feed store. A month later we returned to the same store to pick up food, and they informed us that we had turned in a hen and NOT a...

    Cochin Thread!!!

Abby, 6 or 7 weeks Hello, fellow Cochin lovers! We are still really new to the world of chickens, and I was wondering if you could lend your expertise on one of our newest flock members. This chick was purchased from the bantam bin, but I think he/she might be standard sized. What color...

Still trying to figure these babies out!

Well, I'm ok with that, and it does make sense that it would not be a show chicken. We'll take any color, any pattern....as long as it's a hen and not a rooster!

Still trying to figure these babies out!

Well, I feel better knowing that Flash must be a slw, and more than likely a male. At least we won't have to change his name to something less girly when we drop him off at the feed store. :-/ Cue countdown to crowing.....

Still trying to figure these babies out!

Uh-oh. I just checked some of the other slw threads, and it's not looking good for my Flash. Very young rooster looking, now that I have seen a few more. Man. Adding in Amelia, this will make 6/17 that we were told were girls!!! I really need to start reading up on the telltale signs within...

Still trying to figure these babies out!

Isn't the feather pattern wrong for those? Their coloring is so neat and organized. This chick's feathers are kind of zany!

Still trying to figure these babies out!

And here's Flash with some feathers. I am SO unfamiliar with black and white breeds. What are my options besides Barred Rocks, because (he?) doesn't look like a BR to me....

Still trying to figure these babies out!

Thank you! Question: Amelia and Flash spend nearly every moment of the day hopping around each other. I know they are working out a pecking order, but is it safe to assume that they are BOTH males because of their aggressive nature? I have been doing a little hunting tonight, and I'm...

Still trying to figure these babies out!

Oreo and Abby both have fuzzy feet, but their coloring is almost reversed. I am wondering if we picked up a boy and a girl of the same breed?!? Amelia has AMAZING gray and buff feathers, but sadly is almost 100% a roo. :-( Flash has a pea comb. I am completely stumped! Any help is REALLY...

    Poor little Sugar!

The rest are doing great! We knew there had to be a reason this chick was so tiny, but we were rooting for him/her to pull through all the way to the end. I just love underdogs, er, chicks! :-) Thanks for asking, too. My husband thought I was a bit loopy to be so upset about a bird.

    Poor little Sugar!

:-( No. I fed the little thing watered down food every few hours from a dropper for 36 hours after she choked on a piece of food, but it was pretty clear she had a cleft pallet, because even the slightest drop of water came out her nose as bubbles. We also discovered that her chest was...
