Hi all! I just hatched some silkies yesterday and I’ve not had experience with anything but blue splash and paint. Can anyone help me identify these babies?
I have a few grow outs and I wanted to see what everyone else thought about the sex of these puffs. I have ideas, but I’d love some input. I put three pics of each, except the first chick who wouldn’t cooperate, so there’s only one of that one.
1) face pic of a blue
2-4) blue
5-7) splash
8-10)...
My hen was, I believe, scratched by a possum the other night (Friday). She had a small amount of blood under her eye, so I cleaned her up and watched it. Today she was fine when I let her out for the day, but I just checked her and the side of her face opposite the scratch is really swollen. She...
I need a bit of help. I crossed my blue birchen marans rooster with my cream legbar hen. The chicks with the spot on their heads (barring) should be male, correct? I’m asking bc mine are the opposite. I have a female with barring and a blue male. I’m so confused
My roo, Loki, came from an egg marked “crele”. He has blue on the under side of each wing and he has dark coloring in his tail and secondary feathers. I’ve attached pics of him and one of the feathers he lost. Thanks for looking!
I have three chicks hatched yesterday from my blue silver marans rooster and my cream legbar hen. They are super cute, but I’m wondering about the spots on their heads. Anyone see coloring like this before?
I need to know what I can do to treat respiratory infection in my flock. I brought home two new chicks and thought they had been quarantined long enough. Now half of my chickens sound congested when they breathe, have runny noses, watery eyes and they’re sneezing. I’ve searched the forums and...
I have a 17 week old blue birchen marans cockerel that has recently started limping. His right (knee?) joint is swollen and red. This has gotten worse over the past two weeks. At first I noticed a slight limp once in a while with no swelling. Now it is much larger than his left side. He still...
I have a chick that hatched from an egg marked silkie but I think it has to be a cross. She has five toes, feathered feet, beard and tuft. What’s different is her yellow beak and legs. I have no idea what that’s about. Does anyone have any ideas?
I hatched this chick from an egg labeled “silkie”. It has five toes, feathered legs etc, but it has a crown that is markedly “poofier” than the rest of the silkies. It also has a yellow beak and feet. The breeder doesn’t have any other five toed breeds. What do I have?
I picked up six chicks from my local tractor supply tonight bc they had gorgeous colouring (and I’m addicted).....I checked them out when I got home and I believe five of the six are silkies. Black skin, feathered legs, five toes. What do you think? Also, what colours would you say these are?
my husband is taking leave next week to build my girls a coop. He wants utilitarian and I want something cute. Any ideas? I’ve been looking through articles but thought I’d ask folks who have been through it
