.Hi newburt I just got this feeder at tracktor supply its made by Harris Farms Hanging Feeder, 10 lb It has little dividers so they cant throw their feed around it has totally solved my wasted feed problem [/quotThat's the same feeder I have :-/. I don't know what exactly I'm doing wrong...
Where would a fellow purchase hatching eggs from one of these true heritage flocks?? I love the deep mahogany color of these birds and the heritage that goes with them
Thanks!!! I think/thought/thinking maybe worms. I wormed the whine flick after the third bird died in the same tractor and waited a day and did duramyacin next and so far everything is good for the rest of the birds. Not 100% sure what I had but I had the state board if animal health to come out...
Me too. I have raise my feeder and I still see the feed under the wire. You don't have any idea how much feed u have wasted until you can see it under the brooder. I bet for every 10lb I feed there is 1lb under the brooder.

I will try lifting my feeder up a bit. They are a month old now so they are considerably bigger than they were when I started seeing the problem so I will try this tonight. I'm hoping to have them in a tractor in the next couple of weeks and then they can clean up their own scraps!!!
I have chicks in my outdoor brooder that will be three weeks old tomorrow ( monday ) and have had two other batches in there and had the same problem with them. I have tried the little auto feeders with the holes cut all the way around the bottom and now have graduated to the 7 lb hanging...
This was very well written and caused several outbursts of laughter in my living room today. Im sure everyone was wondering how on earth anything on a website about raising chickens could have been so funny. Thanks for a great read.
I cant speak either way on the deep litter method but doesnt compost go through a heat during the cycle where it is breaking down? I have never actually composted so im not saying this as a fact but more as a question. I definately wouldnt want to add any extra heat to my coop in the summer...
