The chick didn't make it, thanks. I was always told to leave them in the incubator up to 48 hours because they can go that long and it cuts down on the risk you'll drop humidity enough to hurt those who haven't hatched.
I had this Silkie chick hatch Monday, 2 days early. I left him in there because he was so much earlier and I didn't wish to compromise the rest of the hatch. Today when everyone else came along and I pulled him out, the umbilical cord (I hope that's the right term for chickens, I'm not good with...
Karen is awesome, my eggs were so well packed I didn't even have rolling air cells after coast to coast travel. I am already considering ordering another batch.
I also had ordered for 4/17. I am sorry you are going through a rough patch and I understand, but I really need to know when I am getting eggs. I have a trip out of country planned for May and I cannot leave eggs in a bator in care of a pet sitter.
chickenmama22, I am no expert on silkies by a long shot, but I agree that rooster #2 is far more favorable. His coloring and comb are much nicer, and I think he will complement the hen well.
If they get up to 103 for several hours, they could die. I wouldn't trust the thermometer that comes with the LG. Mine ran a full 7 degrees LOW (which meant if I got it up to 99.5 on that thermometer, I would've cooked my eggs). Even a cheap aquarium thermometer, or digital indoor humidity/temp...
Well I'm just passing along an anecdote but I recently saw a story on one of the Facebook groups I follow. The lady said she cleared out her incubator and threw the eggs on day 25 in the trash. Then later she hears peeping and can't find it. Sitting in the trash looking at her is a little Easter...
I think you will be fine to open it and grab the offenders. I have heard of people spraying the eggs with water to prevent the "Saran wrap effect" so you could try that.
