    Neurological symptoms in Araucana

Hello everyone, I have a almost one year old Araucana hen who I noticed was having trouble balancing a few days ago. I have seen some of my Marans have similar symptoms which ended up just being a vitamin deficiency and completely cleared up in 48 hours. After 24 hours, this hen had...

    Mille Cochin Info

Questions about breeding Mille Fleur Cochins... 1) Can you breed Mille x Mille through the generations or will you slowly lose the pattern if you do this? 2) It seems crossing black mottled or buff Columbians into your mille program is popular. What does everyone suggest?

    Breeding Mille Fleur Cochins

Hello everyone, I am curious to hear how fellow Mille Fleur cochin breeders keep the Mille Fleur pattern in their birds. I have heard of people crossing Black Mottled cochins with Mille Fleur to keep the mottling and also to add black. Does anyone else do this? I am just getting started with...

    Treating Mites

Hello everyone! A little over a month ago, I brought home a rooster who ended up bringing with him a terrible infestation of mites. I treated him with permethrin dust, buy I ended up losing him. Four of my other birds have a minor case of them now. They appear to be northern avian mites. They...

    Splay leg chick

Hi everyone, I have a chick who is two weeks old. Today, I noticed it's right leg is splayed out. It's feet were curled when it hatched, but it has been doing fine until today. I taped the leg and also taped it's feet to try and correct the toes, but it cannot walk like this. I don't think it...

Pullet with diarrhea & moving slow & poor appetite

I had sown left over Enrocin from my avian vet. I have been treating my rooster with it and he has improved significantly. You have to get this antibiotic from the vet. If you call your vet they may get it for you. Mine is mixed 50mg/mL. I hope she is still alive!! Good luck!!

Pullet with diarrhea & moving slow & poor appetite

I have a bird who is having similar issues. This past spring, I lost a ben with the same symptoms. I tried treating her with tetracycline, but it did not help. I am thinking of calling my vet and asking if they might have another antibiotic I might try. I know when my hen was sick, some folks...

How long can you save fertile eggs?

I just hatched out shipped eggs from Missouri which ended up being stuck in transit for 10 days so the eggs were about 12 days old. I almost didn't incubate them, but some folks on this forum convinced me to. Out of 7 eggs, three chicks hatched! When I disposed of the eggs, only 1 egg was not...

    Hatching Bantams

Thank you for the reply! Yes, there is definitely a chance. These birds are Mille Fleur cochins and from show quality birds. One thing I have learned about animals with good color and confirmation... They are usually always inbred or very closely line bred. The three birds who have hatched are...

Incubating eggs that are 10+ days old?

Hello everyone, I recently purchased half a dozen Mille Fleur cochin eggs which were shipped to me. It took 10 days for me to receive the eggs. The seller suggested trying to incubate the eggs despite them being around 12 days old. This seems kind of a stretch for me, but I wanted to get your...

    Difficult Hatch

We are out of the woods! The chick is acting normally and you can hardly tell the difference between it and the chicks who hatched naturally. I love it when a plan comes together! LOL. Glad the little cutie got another chance at life!!

    Difficult Hatch

It is still alive! This morning, I decided to place the chick with the rest of the hatch. It really seemed to help it. It is now able to stand and walk. For some reason, it isn't able to pick up its head above the level of its back. I haven't really noticed it eating or drinking on its own. I...
