    2 hens with chicks together

I have 2 hens that have had chicks this week. The first hen made herself a nest in my kids old pram. They were fine and safe there until the chicks hatched and couldn't get out and if they did it was a big fall (for a little chick) and they wouldn't be able to get back in so I moved them. I have...

Eggs pipping and hen wondering the yard.

I have a hen who has been on her eggs for the past 21 days. I have had to remove her from her nest every 2nd day otherwise she wouldn't eat or drink at all. Now her eggs are pipping and she is wondering around eating. What should I do? I'm guessing she wont be gone for long but one chick has a...

    lifeless chicks

Oh and mumma hen is still sitting on them. I am trying not to bother her too much, just lifting up her front feathers or wing to have a little look. The little sick one is under her but right at the front. I don't think it has moved since it hatched but it is still breathing.

    lifeless chicks

The second one that hatched has perked up a lot. The first to hatch is still not moving and I think it is going to die. I am not so worried now though. 3 more have hatched that all seem fine and there is lots of chirping coming from under her so more to come I'd say. The first one might have...

    lifeless chicks

They have hatched around 7 hours ago. The chickens range from 18 months to 9 months in age. They get fed chicken food with grit added, lots of scraps from inside and they free range 18 hours a day. I don't know what has gone wrong.

can i stop a rooster mounting ducks?

I have a 10 month old rooster. He has started mounting my ducks. He is a big boy and has damaged my ducks. He has managed to rip out all the feathers on their backs and made them bleed. He has 5 hens and just him. Can I stop this? We dont want him to go but I wont get rid of my ducks.

Can I save my sick duck.

One of my muscovy ducks is unwell. I noticed yesterday its feathers were looking very weak. Its previous owners clipped its wings so the feathers always looked a bit horrible. After picking it up yesterday I noticed it had a sore around 5cm in diameter under its wing. It looked infected and has...

    Why did my duck die?

I am wondering if anyone could help me figure out why my duck died. She was a beautiful 8 month old muscovy. Very friendly. She was fine yesterday and last night. She was her usual self when I locked her away. This morning though she was lying with her wings spread on the ground of the pen. I...

Do my chickens have a disease?

One if my chickens I've had for almost 6 months. She has only ever had use of one leg. The last week or 2 she has grown a rather large lump on the top side of her head. I have also just noticed she has 2 wart like things on her face as well. After checking out the rest of the flock one of...

Anyone guess muscovy duck gender please

They are both the same size and can fly really well. They both talk, like a raspy squeak but definately don't quack and very softly. I guess they are both girls so I'll need to buy a drake.

May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I have some improvement with my little chick. I think it had splayed legs so I've used a bandaid to keep them together. It can now stand a lot better and almost walk a little. It still falls down a lot and rolls around but no where near as much as it was. Am I doing the right thing trying to fix...

Auschook How is your little one? With a wound like this directly after hatching, I would be very concerned it is a developmental problem...specifically failure of the neural tube to close. This means the spinal canal is malformed and the vertebrae/spinal chord didn't form correctly. Very...

May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I am still worried about the little thing. It still can't walk. It's been hatched for a few hours but can't seem to straighten out its legs, it just rolls around. How long do you give chicks to come good?

May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I started with 16 eggs. 4 of my own have all hatched yesterday. 12 I brought and only 4 developed, 2 made it to lockdown and 1 has hatched. It doesn't look so good. It appears to have a sore on its back, its a smallish area that seems white-ish and gross. I'm not sure what's going on. I am very...

May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I am having a little stress. I am doing a staggered hatch and have 6 eggs just starting day 19. I wanted to do a candle of them before locking them down. I was taking my time and after about 5 minutes I realized I already have a pip and the others have internally pipped. I rushed around to...

They are Araucanas. I brought some locally over a week ago but they appeared to be old and I only have 3 developing so I got these shipped.

May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I received my shipped eggs 17 hours ago. They have been sitting at room temperature big end up since then. I have just candled them and there are no detached air cells (next day shipping) so how should they go into the incubator? In egg cartons or just how id normally set them since all the air...
