5 day old chick trouble breathing; won't drink

Hello My five day old Jersey Giant chick keeps opening her mouth like she's yawning with every breath. She has no discharge and isn't making any noises. She keeps trying to sleep but whenever her head is lower than her body she jerks it up and flips out; I think she can't breathe when it's...

Wild Wood Ducks Nesting Over Cement Driveway?

Hello! So, I am very excited to say that I have wild wood ducks nesting in a dead oak on my property. However, the tree is right on the edge of my yard, next to my driveway. I'm worried that when the ducklings leave they nest they will land on the concrete instead of the grass next to it and...

    Lethargic, dehydrated hen

I'm so upset. My parent just now told me that one of my hens has been sick for THREE DAYS and has not been eating or drinking since then. My mom said that she found my hen (Nyac) upside down in the run, being pecked by another hen. My mom took her out and put her in a separate coop, and then...

    Show requirements for Ameraucana

I was just wondering about the show requirements for ameraucanas. I have a sweet little girl with good conformation, but I didn't know what exactly they should look like. (I also have a decent Barred Plymouth Rock is anyone knows about them.)

    Giving penicillin

Ok, so I'm trying to treat my beautiful hen who's internally laying. She was just diagnosed today. How much penicillin should I give her, how, and when? Also, what conditions should I keep her on? I really don't want to stress her. Thank you very much. ANY INFORMATION AT ALL IS HELPFUL.

    EMERGENCY! Internal laying?

Ok, so here goes. Three years ago my golden comet River died from what I now know was internal laying. Late last year my hen Wolf of the same breed died as well, with the same symptoms (lethargy, not eating, sitting puffed up) now my favorite hen, Nyac, (also a comet) has been lethargic and just...

    Lethargic, "tired" hen

I have six three-and-a-half year old hens. They have almost all finished molting, and look pretty filled out, though there are still some shedded feathers gathering in the coop. These are just some facts I think may help? Ok, so I went out this morning and all my hens were very exited because...

    Impacted egg?

Ok, so River (she's molting by the way) was just standing hunched in a corner in the coop. I figured she was cold, since she was mostly bald, and brought her inside for a bit. Then I realized she wasn't passing any feces. I figured she had an impacted egg and gave her a bath. After a bit she...

    Urgent, please help!

My barred rock is walking low to the ground (like they do when you pet them, but they want to keep walking) and seems to be favoring one foot. The only things I've ever treated chickens for is impacted egg and chicken pox! What should I do?? She's also molting, if that's of any help.

    Our Hen's Coop

This is a bit of an old photo from when they were pullets. Like I said... Old. Now they have nest boxes and a run, I'll post them tomorrow. Or when I'm not lazy.

    Meet the flock

I am the proud mamma or seven chickens. While they sport odd names, givento them by me, they are sweet, beautiful little hens. I have four golden comets, Nyac (meanig Wind,) Wolf, River and Roan. A barred plymouth rock named Connwaer. An Americana named Gylfee, And a Black Beauty Sex-Link...

    Losing feathers.

My seven girls are starting to lose feathers on their behinds. They are red and look painful... One started out molting at the base of the tail, and I think pecking that gave them a taste for feathers? We are spraying them with Vetracin, and that makes them a bit less red, but only my Black...
