Hi Folks:
We have a Rhode Island Red that appears to be retaining fluid. It is very noticeable where her thighs are. They are swollen. Her excrement has been runny and is yellowish in color. She is 6+ years old.
Any thoughts on what to do?
Many thanks
Romanov
Hi Howlingrose:
Did Roo have any other symptoms? Retaining fluid?
We just lost an Orp yesterday. Her stance was that of a penguin due to fluid retention. I have done so much research on this and have come up with a diagnosis of ascites. I am NOT a vet or medical person. But after...
Today is Sunday, July 7th. 2013. Sonia passed away this afternoon at approximately 1PM PDT. I am writing this post to just let everyone know what symptoms Sonia developed.
She seemed to rally for a while after she got an antibiotic shot and Vitamin B on April 9th. However, as time went on...
Hi Ronnee27. I am so glad your chick is better.
Our Rhodie is better too. She was able to get on the roost Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday by herself. Last night she needed a little assistance. She is eating and scratching and drinking water. Her stance is not totally normal but better...
Thank you Fiddlebanshee. I just came back from the coop and you are correct. Your descriptive of a 'penguin-like' stance is a perfect fit. I can see the extra weight around her bottom.
I live in a rural area on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. The vet here does treat all kinds of...
Hi everyone - The Rhodie is much better. The vet gave her an antibiotic and some Vitamin B last week Tuesday. We kept her isolated until yesterday and then reunited her with her flock. While she was isolated she started eating her pellets, drinking water. We had her stool examined by the...
Hi there - I am new to this board as well. I am sorry about your chick. I have not had any responses from this board except for yours.
I do know that my Rhodie has not been bullied. We have 3 Rhodies and 3 Buff-Orpingtons and the Rhodies rule the roost.
The vet said he really did not know...
On Saturday, our Rhode Island Red was just standing in the coop yard with her tail feathers down. She was not walking around the yard, just standing there. She showed no signs of pecking at the ground, scratching for food or any other normal behavior. We separated her from the flock on Monday...
