I CAN SEE HER SKULL! pullet with head wound....

I know this is an older thread, but I must say it helped me as a new chicken owner when one of my pullet girls got spooked and hopped on another one's head and making a nasty looking head gash very similar to the one pictured in this thread. Its been 6 days since and my poor girl is healing just...

Anyone Have the Churchill Coop by Brinsea?

Rubiesmom: I am brand new to chicken keeping and trusted Brinsea's recommendation that the Winscombe could fit at least three birds, but your review has me worried. Do you think my three Silver Laced Wynadottes will outgrow the Windcombe coop and run? Its mild year-round here in CA and the...

11-week-old Molt? Or Mites? Or Picking? [Pictures]

Thank you ChickensAreSweet. What I saw did look like an oil gland from what I searched on the net. I had no idea chickens had such glands! I think her funny looking feathers are just feathers growing in like you said, as I don't feel bugs and there weren't any in the bath. Again, thank you!

11-week-old Molt? Or Mites? Or Picking? [Pictures]

Hello, I'm new to BYC and to chicken-keeping and I read some of the molting and lice/mites threads and have one of my new three 11-week-old pullets with what I thought was pasty butt. I gave her a bath and looked for bugs, but didn't find anything that looked like the pictures of mites, lice...

Anyone Have the Churchill Coop by Brinsea?

Additionally - The textured plastic does not look like it will get hot in the summer (again doesn't feel like plastic, maybe more like a rubber) - but I'm in San Diego, and it hasn't gotten hot here yet. I bought them a reflective, breathable dog kennel tarp, just in case and I also have them...

Anyone Have the Churchill Coop by Brinsea?

Hello - I bought the smaller Brinsea Coop and Run - the "Winscombe" because I'm new to chickens, have only three birds, and I'm not very handy. I got mine on sale on Wayfair. It was very easy to put together, made of quality stuff, and is very easy to clean. The plastic doesn't really feel...

    Fermented feed question

Hello all, I'm a San Diego, CA newbie to BYC and to chicken keeping in general. I read http://naturalchickenkeeping.blogspot.com/p/fermented-feed.html and I want to start fermenting Scratch and Peck non-GMO Grower feed (17% protein) for my three 11-week-old pullets. I tried to read the...

    I hate these leg bands

Stromberg's has colored and numbered zip ties. Has anyone had trouble with the zip ties catching on bush branches, cage wire, etc.? I only have the three birds, but it would be nice to tell them apart. http://www.strombergschickens.com/prod_detail_list/Numbered-Zip-Tie-Poultry-Bands
