My buff hen went broody little while back. Bad part is I have no big roosters. Well I have a bantam hen and bantam rooster. So I swapped the eggs. She hatched 3 of the 6. Wonder if she knows they are a little small lol!
I have a coop that is about 110 sq ft with 60 ft of roost poles and 10 nesting boxes. The run is a total of 250 sq ft. I also use a chicken tractor that is 5x12 that I put half of them in every other day and move around.
Question; My son wants to start raising hens to sell at the livestock...
We get them for a dollar each have always successful raised em on lay mash and he gets 10 to 12 per hen. After time and all he isn't making money just learning responsibility. We sell em at 4 months or so. We d ok reds buffs and black ousterlops
Oh plenty then. He wants to get about 34. 30 to sell throughout the year for extra money and four to keep each year for eggs. So 34 is ok with some free ranging scratch corn daily and half of run is in woods/ under trees and gets alot of bugs dropping etc.
I have a coop that is 14x12 with 12 nesting boxes and about 70 feet of roosting poles. I have attached a run that is 14 feet long 6 feet high and 10 feet wide. I also just added a run along side it that is 6 feet wide by 24 feet long and adding another 8 feet wide by 12 feet long.
How many...
I have a bunch of new chicks I want to raise outside in my current coop. It's 3 sided and big with straw. I'm in Tennessee and average temperature is 30 to 40. I have full size hens out there but have built a safe 4x4 box with wire for chicks. If I put a lamp on constantly will chicks stay warm...
I have built an extensive coop and run over the years. I love to keep chickens but couldn't bare to keep the big birds pinned up. I always love to see them roam the yard and feed on healthy stuff. I finally grew tired of the wifes nagging about the chickens in her flower bed or on the porch (new...
My last flock was very healthy until my dog killed them off. I started 32 hens on starter until about 7 weeks then went to layer crumbles. They did fantastic. I also supplemented with the fact they free ranged at 8 weeks and threw them garden vegies too.
My new flock will be introduced to...
Yeah I thought it was a fox for a while. But got suspicious when I started thinking that everytime a fox wouldn't eat it in the yard and leave only feet and guts. Then one morning about 10am wife screamed at me and we caught him in the act. I came to the conclusion that he didn't bother them...
Last year I had 32 hens. I had a 12x12 coop attached to a 12x12 run. I let them out every day to free range on our 19 acres. They did great. They started slowly getting killed off. I ended up with 8 and sold them cause I thought the fox was gonna kill them all. I caught my dog with one in his...
I had 32 hens that free ranged. They were all killed off slow by what I thought was a fox. Turned out to be my dog. Wife wouldn't let me range the dog with my shotgun. So, I want more chicks. I expanded my original coop and run How many chicks and roos will I be ok with based on my size?
Its...
I have a flock of 14 hens that are all buffs. I went to pick eggs today and had one hen that would not get off the most popular laying box. I have 12 boxes, but they all try to use the same one. A few hours later I check again and she is still there. I just went and checked at 11pm and she is...
Exactly what it looks like but less and darker brown. Thanks so much for your help. Im guessing mine had darker deposit as each one was from a dark brown egg.
Sorry its not like any of those pics. It looks like you crack an egg in a bowl and there a few specs of cracked corn in the clear part of the egg. Picture a cracked uncooked egg and you drop a few grains of cracked corn into the egg white part of the egg.
