We recently moved our peacock and hen ( is that the right terminology? I'm new to this ) from a small pen where they were alone, to a large pen where they have several chickens for company. While the peacock was in the smaller pen, he called all the time, but now that he's in with the chickens...
The lump is on the right side of the neck and the neck itself is bent sharply to the left. This is the second one like this, the first hatched out yesterday and seems to be resolving, but the second has a sharper bend to its neck and it has trouble navigating around. I have had 16 hatch so far...
Is this a deformity or something that happend while he was hatching? The other babies kept pecking at him as he was hatching, could they have broken a blood vessel? Sorry, too many questions. What do you think guys?
Thank you once again for your wonderful advice. I cant believe I didnt think about the water getting hot. I have seven babies now and several more to come, so I'm not so paranoid as I was. I have learned so much invaluable information here that will make raising these quail so much more fun for...
One baby hatched last night, the second hatched an hour or two ago, and the first one seems to be picking on the new one, is this normal? I have water and a boiled egg in the incubator, I put their beaks in both so they would know it was there.
I put boiled egg in a small blender and put it in a jar lid, did this with water also. I put his little beak in both, not much interest yet but at least it's there. I'm trying to figure out how to post a picture, stay tuned.
I have learned here that you should feed them game bird starter with a higher protein content, like 20% or more. You should crush it for the fist few days since the crumbles are too big for them.
I woke this morning to an unusual peeping noise, I have one baby! It looks like there may be a few more, there are tiny cracks in some other eggs. I know they can be kept in the incubator up to 48 hours, but after that they should be in a brooder, I just hate to put one or two in there alone. I...
Thank you for answering me, I am brand new at this. The temp. during incubation was 99 to 100 degrees, I dont know about the humidity, I kept the trays full of water, but I dont have a hydrometer?? so I dont know. I wont make that mistake again. I got the eggs from the quail my neighbor has. He...
Ok, I have a question. I have 32 bobwhite eggs in my incubator, it is day 24 and nothing is happening. This is my first attempt at this. I got the eggs from adult quail my neighbor raises. At what point do I give up on these and start over. Oh, and can you tell me where I can get a meter to...
I have 32 bobwhite eggs in the incubator, it is day 24 and I'm not seeing anything happening, when do I give up on them? I have watched them a hundred times a day for almost a month, I'm so disappointed!
Follow up from last post, my girls have decided to start roosting! They are also starting to cluck instead of peep. They are growing up and more fun every day. They love apples, or really anything I give them for a treat. I sit down and that is their cue to come running.
I am so glad to have this site to get my questions answered. Last night I noticed all my pullets were piled up in a corner of their coop, but they roost during the day. I thought they were afraid of something. Their coop is pretty well predator proofed, but I was worried about maybe a snake. Now...
