    Drunken Hen??

Guess this isn't an emergency, as it's been going on now for a few months, but... We have a Barred Rock type hen that started sort of weaving around acting sort of drunk about three months ago. It has gotten somewhat more pronounced. She acts as if her feet are sore and lately has been...

    Cheer or Cry??

I don't know whether to cheer or cry My sweet little fuzzy wuzzums have outgrown their brooders inside and have moved to the big brooder in the coop. Hubby put bedding into the end that's all closed in and hooked up the big light. Then we moved 25 babies one at a time to their new home...

Not sure this is the place for this..hope so

We have a Barred Rock (cross) hen that is about 18 months old. I have noticed lately that she seems to be stepping on her own feet sometimes tipping herself. My hubby picked her up and we looked her over good and the only thing that I noticed was that her toenails are very long and are sort of...

Hubby built us a new BIG brooder!!

Hubby's project this week-end was to install a larger brooder in the outside coop. Our babies will be ready to move outside in probably another two or three weeks. By then the temps will have gotten warmer at night hopefully. Don't know why I didn't ask him to just build it and put it in the...

    I have a mystery!! (Pics)

Well maybe not a mystery, but I sure am stumped! Our Australorp babies will be three weeks old tomorrow. There are wing & tail feathers everywhere and even a few escape artists in the batch. Now then, we had a bitty one in the group and I just knew she wasn't going to thrive, but thrive she...

    Clorox Disinfecting Wipes

Are these ok to use to wipe down the inside of the plastic tote brooders when I clean them out?? Sure would be easier than mixing up bleach and water. I use them all around the house, especially during the winter when colds and flu abound. Thanks!!

    Another boiled egg question

Is a whole boiled egg, chopped up, every other day to much to give 25 standard size chicks?

    Egg Yolk for babies??

I've seen a lot about giving the little chicks hard boiled chopped egg yolk for protein. Is there some reason you don't chop the whole hard boiled egg for them? The white actually has a bit more protein than the yolk does. The yolk does have more fat in it. I boiled an egg for my little...

    Question, dealing with pasty bums...

Can you use Baby Wipes and Baby Oil on pasty bum chicks? Just thinking they are very mild and gentle. Hate to get the little guys soaked and sometimes the crusty stuff can really be hard. Just wondering, I'm off to Walmart for more "baby" supplies <g> Kaye

My Babies are here!! Thank you Ideal!!

I thought for sure my baby BA's were lost But about 10 this morning the main Post Office in Ft. Smith called to tell me my babies were there and I could come get them. We rushed around and made it down there in record time. I could hear them when I walked in the door, LOL We got them home...

    What do y'all think??

We added a new bird to our small flock a couple of months ago. It is a Barred Rock Cross of some kind I think. I thought that it might be a baby roo (we were hoping for a pullet). The chook is about the age to start laying, but I really didn't think it was a pullet. Yesterday my hubby...

    Pumpkins

We appear to have a bumper crop of little sugar pumpkins this year. I will, of course, freeze some puree for pies, cookies & soup. Those rinds go to the chickens. My question is this, can the chickens have their fill of pumpkin seeds or should I remove all or most of them before giving the...

    A strange looking egg!!

I got this egg this morning from a hen that only just is starting to lay. This is her second egg and the first one had these little "bumps" on it too. They sort of look a little like fish or frog eggs that you sometimes see floating on the surface of the water. Hard little round balls on the...

New here and I have a question please..

Hello, My husband and I have just completed a new chicken "condo" as he calls the coop and a nice yard. We have three hens that our neighbor gave us plus two hens and a rooster that we "rescued" from a very sad looking place. The hens and roo are doing fine, seem to be happy and are eating...
