New to hatching using the Broody Hen method.

Well I'm learning as I go too! My first 2 hens that went broody I just left her I never marked eggs or nothing. Next thing you know my other hens started laying in her best when she would get up and eat. At one point she had about 15 eggs under her. So what I did is wait it out and finally a few...

New to hatching using the Broody Hen method.

My thoughts are mom knows best. Maybe the chicks can't get in coop?? I'm sure you have a ramp but maybe they can't get up it yet. Also do you have nesting boxes on the ground in the coop? I have some especially for mamas with small babies. I just had a hen hatch out 4 chicks over the wknd and I...

    Chicken OBSESSED!

Both batches I have raised I have shared with friends and family so I only have about 10 birds in the freezer. One thing I know for sure is I will NEVER buy chicken from the store again!! They are a really comical birds! I let all of my birds free range literally they are never in the run unless...

    Chicken OBSESSED!

I love love love this sight because I don't feel so silly for being obsessed with chickens. I just started my chicken adventure last summer with a few hens and roosters given to me by a friend. I have no idea what breed they are and am pretty sure they are mixed, but I love them. Since then I...

New to hatching using the Broody Hen method.

I left my hens in with everyone else and they are such great mamas nobody will mess with their babies. I do let my chickens free range though so they have lots of space to be away from the other birds. The other day one of the chicks was actually hanging out with one of my roosters while mama...

New to hatching using the Broody Hen method.

Thanks everyone! Now maybe someone can give me an idea of what my hens might be lol they are black with a bit more feathers on top of their heads. They are excellent mamas but not fabulous layers. I got them for free and I'm sure they are mixed.

New to hatching using the Broody Hen method.

I hope I don't sound to silly in this post, but I have questions and I know you all will help me answer them. First of all I will say that I have 5 mixed hens that are extremely broody, 3 of which have already laid and hatched a few chicks of their own. I now have 2 hens that won't leave the...

    My broilers have runny droppings

I have 30 meat birds and they are supposed to be going off to butcher. I noticed in the pen this morning that there were some droppings that were runny and some that had almost a stringy appearance with a reddish brown color. Not like the color of blood. Should I be worried? Everyone is...

Thanks redsoxs you have been a big help. I was so worried I was doing something wrong! The last thing I want is unhealthy birds, especially ones we are going to eat.

My broilers didn't completely feather out.

Oh good I was worried. I did read that they are bred to have less feathers so maybe that's it. They are so ugly hahaha! Other than the feathers everyone is eating and drinking and look very healthy.

    New to raising Broilers

I feed them 12hrs on and 12 hrs off. For the past week we have finally had decent weather where I can let them free range most of the day. My biggest concern right now is not all of them feathered out totally. Is this normal? I am with them quite often during the day and I don't see any of them...

My broilers didn't completely feather out.

I am raising my first batch of broilers and I am learning as I go. I have 30 broilers that about 6 weeks old. Most have grown in all their feathers but I have some that don't have feathers around their butt. Is something wrong or is this in the breeding? All seem very healthy and I am with them...
