My husband actually shot the gun at the ground to try to scare them off but it did not work. Nothing worked. They would not run off until he actually shot one.
They spent a lot of time pulling on the hardware cloth and loosened a top corner near the nesting box, just enough to put his head in and grab them one by one. The black dog took them out and the brown dog started chowing down. The black one scared my husband, so that is why he shot at him. He...
My husband did shoot 1 but he ran off. I wish he would have killed him because I hate for the dog to suffer! I couldn't have shot at it, but my husband did it before I got home to stop him. It's the owners fault. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind if it sends a message to the people around...
If anyone is in Denham, please let me know if you know who these dogs belong too. We had a tragic day. These dogs worked very hard and found a way in my coop. They took 6 of my hens from the nesting area. 6 dead. I'm so upset.
I ended up getting one of these to try because you can change the blades when they get dull. Will see how it works!

Anyone know what the laws are in Livingston parish for addressing dogs that attack your chickens? Someone in my area has 2 hunting dogs that run loose and try to get into my coop daily. It's to the point now that they are weakening the structure and causing damage, and may soon find a way in...
I have my 5 gallon bucket outside the coop and the hose goes through a small opening I made in the hardware cloth on the coop. I attached the PVC nipple part with those little plastic ties right on the wire. Here is mine.
How about using a knife that has replacement blades like this? Then you just swap out the blades as needed.

I have only been a chicken owner for about a year, and we didn't have any hurricanes last year (south Louisiana). Now that I've got my coop and run and a larger flock, I'm afraid of how they will hold up in hurricane/tropical storm winds. How do you prepare for hurricanes or high winds? I don't...
Can ya'll give me some advice on skinning? I tried but ended up just tearing his legs up because I couldn't get the skin off :-/. I ended up plucking, which wasn't that hard after dunking in the hot water, but skinning would have been easier if I could have gotten the skin off. Do you also gut...
Mine didn't taste too strong or gamey that I noticed. Mine free range partially but mostly eat chicken feed, so maybe that is the difference? I have 8-10 roosters coming up too!

Wow thanks y'all. I looked up the Phoenix breed and the chicks look exactly like mine, and the new feathers coming in look just like the lower wing tip feathers on this silver Phoenix hen:
These have a stripe along their back. They all look the same. And now their feathers are coming in grey. Don't know if you can see them any better in this pic.
