My husband keeps laughing at me - I keep checking on them! Everytime I go, the kids want to, and then the whole excitement train starts again! I don't know how to bring the humidity down. I know if it's too low it can hurt them - I just haven't figured out if you can have it too high.
I've made it to lockdown - yeah! I've never made it this far (one try before). I have 22 mixed ducklings (crosses of KC, WH, and Snowy Rouen). I went to make the final turn today, before lockdown, and they were bobbin and cheeping! I have 4 pips, and am waiting. This hatching thing really...
I put my 22 duck eggs in lockdown earlier today....I have an LG, no fan. I haven't made it this far before (only tried once before). I have cheeping, rocking, and 4 pips already! I sooooo excited (cough, cough - I mean, my KIDS are excited, lol). I put a wet rag in there, based on what I've...
I went through them all again this morning while turning, and I can't figure it out I'll keep looking. There are two that look as if they have the faintest hairline crack in them...but no ooze. I'll look again at the next turning.
I'm sure - they are all moving. Problem is - I'm not sure which on it is. I assume it would be the one with the larger air sac, but I'm new to this, and don't really know.
It's sticky, kind of yellowish. Not condensation.
I'm on day 14 of my second hatch attempt (first didn't result in any fuzzy butts) of ducks.
Yesterday when I turned them, I noticed something "sticky" on my hands, but didn't think much about it. Today, I realized there is a "dot" or two of sticky stuff on the bottom of the bator (I have an...

We put ours in a separate house than the chickens. Desperate at the time, we used a 16*16 dog pen, and enclosed the top with 1/2 roof and 1/2 fencing, angled so we could walk in it. Inside the pen, we dug out a hole for a medium sized kiddy pool. We cut a hole in the bottom of the...
I have all silver, and none of them had the gold highlights yours have - so, my guess is all gold. Peanut doesn't seem as dark though. Just a guess They are beautiful, either way!
I have looked through some past posts on BYC, but am still unsure of best choice. I'm hoping some experienced folks can help!
I am making my second attempt at hatching ducks. Last year was too unplanned - only 3 in the bator, and the three died at different stages.
This time around I...
Good to hear. Only a few for my first try (I'm also expecting in about 2 months, and don't want a large number to tend to to around due date). Now, if only I can figure out where they laid their eggs today Since I cleaned up, they've moved a round a bit.
Makes me feel better that someone else tried it too
My new question - how do you store your eggs before incubating? Everything I read says 55-60 degrees (frig too cold, house too warm). I'm in SC, and don't have a basement or anything, and it's been close to the 90s lately.
I know, I know I blame you people - you make it addicting
I started a whole new journey with the chickens and then the ducks...and now the thought of them having babies opens up a whole new world
I became a first time duck mommy last summer with Welsh Harlequins and Khaki Campbells. Split an order with my MIL, and kept 3 WH (2 F, 1 M), 2 KC (1 M, 1 F...had to put down the KC male because of a dog attack ).
Anyway - I had been thinking about getting more, and became so excited when my...
I may have made it sound confusing - just to clarify - the chicken are not in dirty water. They rarely free range since a hawk got one in the Fall. However - the weather has be BEAUTIFUL, and they love getting out, so - I've been letting them out when I'm working in the yard. The ducks came...
