I've treated wounds like this before. Firstly, get saline solution, wash out the wound, use a syringe without the needle to squirt water into the wound.
Once clean, do not stitch it up - or you will lock in bacteria.
Antibiotics are really good if you can get them from your vet as they will...
How did you get on with the Ivermectin Billy83? Hope you didn't have to cull.
Take a look at this information about depluming mite: https://poultrykeeper.com/external-problems/depluming-mites/
Looks like TwoCrows is right. I've never heard of this before, must be quite an unusual problem.
Sometimes I find an odd orphan duckling that needs to be rescued and released when old enough. They generally do very well at integrating back into the local wild flock. Here in the UK, it's illegal to release domestics into the wild or any other non-native species.

If so I'd say Crested Cream Legbar hen - she would have come from a blue colored egg.... but there are others that also look like this!
I think its a good idea to treat the chook because the problem then goes away.
I don't think they will crawl onto you though unless the bird is really heavily infested because they usually try to get out of the light as soon as you part the feathers. They wouldn't want to leave their host for...
Hi all,
Just wanted to say hello, I've just joined up.
Have had chickens for most of my life but only really got into it seriously over the last few years. I have light sussex, wyandotte and mixed breed layers at the moment. I also have a few runner ducks.
I look forward to sharing some...
