Hello,
I was given 6 adult barred rock hens, one of them is walking on what seems like tippy toes. She won't stand for very long, perches on top of one of the nest boxes or behind it in the sand. During yard time she has come out but the other girls chase her off and I end up carrying her back...
No I haven't seen bloody stool, looked at some this morning it seemed fine
Just the standing with eyes closed and the barely eating, they did munch on some sunflower seeds though earlier
If they should be separated for a minimum of 30 days then I need to modify their yard this weekend for sure...
Thank you guys
If I can get her to eat......
The three in the picture are barely eating, barely, and I never see them drinking water.
Offered treat yesterday afternoon like I do everyday to all my girls and they didn't even touch what I offered, melon with seeds.
They seem to be tired, standing...
Thank you guys so much!
Can't tell much from the pictures but she is really going to be beautiful! Her color is amazing to me.
I compared some pictures of young roosters at just 12 to 14 weeks and yes there is no sign that she's a he.
So indeed if I was told correctly her age, then I am the...
I'm not sure exactly her age, I was told she is two weeks from laying so if most breeds start laying around 24 weeks? then she is approx 22 weeks old? From what I was told.
I don't know what makes me think she is Maybe the tail feathers? The way they stand up? I'm not by any means an expert, I...
I was told the blonde one and the black and white one (barred rock) are 1 and a half to 2 years old, the one in question is supposed to be 2 weeks from laying from what he said, but he is wrong I'm pretty sure. :/
Yes I will get a close up posted.
Thanks
Good morning everyone,
Need some help here,
I picked up a young bird that I was told was a pullet. The poor thing has been pecked badly on it's hind end, lots of the feathers are gone. The wounds are older looking and she seems healthy. I haven't put her or the other two in the main coop yet I...
I have been reading some very funny stuff here! You guys are great!
In preparation for the very hot days ahead I have come up with a way to keep the hens water cold all day, since I have founts. I took small water bottles and froze them, I stick one in each fount and fill it up. Worked well...
Yea, I only have two with big wattles on their heads, two others are laying and they have very small ones.
As far as I see all my hens are sleeping together in the nest at night, although I don't check way after dark, maybe I should just to see.
My nest is too tall so they are sleeping in...
Congrats on the new first egg!! I wanted to do a happy dance when I got my first one :)
But my first came from 4 adopted older hens .. Not the ones I'm raising so I have a question,
What is the behavior before they start to lay? I have 9 almost 16 week olds, three are making nests and sitting...
I'm so new at the whole chicken thing, I'm figuring things out as I go. I have 9 chicks that are 15 weeks old right now and 4 that are 7 months. I have a lot of feathers in the coup! Babies doing that or older ones? I don't know what to look for when it comes to molting.
I usually get 4 eggs a...
