    need help with abandoned duckling

Well, I tried bringing "Titipu" (the baby- named for one of the characters in The Mikado) outside today- she was looking really good, and was so lonely inside the house. She found momma and stuck like glue; I found her sitting on top of momma at one point - so funny! The other ducks all seem...

    need help with abandoned duckling

Thanks. I did write to Holderread's asking if they had any leftover ducklings, but I don't hold out much hope for that. Thank you for giving me an idea of when to start reintroducing her to the rest of the flock

    need help with abandoned duckling

I don't know where I can get another baby duck at this time of year. I was rather surprised when my khaki got broody so late in the year. We usually expect our first frost this month. I've looked in Craigslist, and the local penny ads.

    need help with abandoned duckling

Thanks so much! I don't have any other babies that I can put with her, so I think I'm going to just be her BFF. She's (I'm hoping it's a girl, lol) already peeping louder when I leave her, and settling down a bit when I sit down next to her. I noticed a bare spot on the back of her neck. Is...

    need help with abandoned duckling

My Khaki Campbell got broody and managed to hatch out one duckling yesterday morning. This morning she was up and about and the baby was following her happily. Just a few minutes ago I went out and the baby wasn't with mama anymore. I looked around and found it- wet and lying limply in the...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

I have read that using a strong solution of garlic poured on their mounds will chase fire ants right out. We don't seem to have them here, but we do have carpenter ants... I've seen the ducks eating them so I don't worry about it too much unless I find them in the house (then I call the guy to...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

They are so cute! Had they been sexed so you know what you have? Our Grange CoOp had KC's for sale, but I had to wait 2 days until the paycheck came in. By the time I went back they were all gone so I will have to wait until my Silver Appleyards are ready at Holderread's.

    fruit trees and ducks

we don't have morning glories, but we do have bindweed(which is related) that crops up here and there. I pull it up when I see it, but I'm always worried that I'll miss some. I found this link to a list of plants that are toxic to poultry. http://www.poultryhelp.com/toxicplants.html

    fruit trees and ducks

I read about someone that had a grapevine over the coop. The ducks enjoyed the shade during hot days, and enjoyed the grapes when they ripened. The vines also protected them from hawks and such, while in the winter the sun could get through the bare vines so they could enjoy that too. It...

    Frozen Eggs from Kahki Campbells

Yes, he does have much lighter wing colors than the girls... They are much prettier than I thought they would be from the descriptions in the catalogs and such.

Is it safe for ducklings to eat dandelion FLOWERS?!

Quote: I've been writing an herbal for myself- concentrating on plants that are fairly common. It's amazing how many of the 'weeds' I've seen all my life turn out to be good for me. (for instance, the roots of couch grass - one of the biggest headaches for most gardeners - is excellent for...

    Frozen Eggs from Kahki Campbells

here's a pic of my Khakis... finally figured out what I was doing wrong They are actually a little bit darker than the picture, but not by much. Lucky, the drake, is at the back, with Amelia, Abigail, and Amanda.

Is it safe for ducklings to eat dandelion FLOWERS?!

You betcha it’s a great tonic! Dandelion leaves have loads of Vitamin C, and a higher Vitamin A content than carrots. It’s also a great source of boron, calcium and silicon. The flowers are one of the best sources of lecithin (helps boost memory and mental focus, and also good for the liver)...

    Frozen Eggs from Kahki Campbells

if you are talking about the darker ones in the background- they look awfully dark for KC's. Khaki Campbells are called that because they are supposed to be the color (khaki) of the British uniforms during the Bohr War, I believe. Ours are a little darker than what I would call true Khaki, but...

    Cayugas owners speak up please

I think crows are more of a problem for ducklings rather than adults. We have a lot of bald eagles in our area (highest population outside of Alaska in the US, I believe), but so far they haven't scored- but not from lack of trying, lol. I have a lot of trees, shrubs, and my duck pergolas (a...

Is it safe for ducklings to eat dandelion FLOWERS?!

Dandelions and their flowers are fine for ducks.....as long as they haven't been sprayed with anything. In fact, they are good for humans to eat as well-- tell your father in-law to quit throwing away perfectly good food. Both the leaves and the flowers are good in salads, scrambled eggs, etc...

    Duck Houses

I've come to the conclusion that all ducks are obsessive/compulsive, lol. They absolutely hate hate hate any changes. But by the same token, once they do finally get used to something, like a new house, you don't have to worry much anymore- they will troop in every night all on their own...
