    My goose bit my neighbor

Goosedragon, I have had the same thoughts about my geese...they come when I call them and generally want to be near me. I can see the training fence idea working. We have horse fencing surrounding our back acreage. It would be "easY' to put up some chicken wire type fencing to keep them in...

    My goose bit my neighbor

I agree with the male part...I think She might be a HE. They will be kept in enclosures for awhile. The enclosure for summer is very large, so that doesn't worry me. It is the winter one that will need to be improved. I will have to see it this bird tries to mate with the other one.

    My goose bit my neighbor

Okay, the geese are in a temp enclosure near their winter water source. I will improve their summer digs...and make the winter enclosure more perm. Unless I can be out there with them (ie...in the garden in summer), then they will have to stay put. When they stay in the back acreage, they are...

    My goose bit my neighbor

In the summer, we have the geese in a large enclosure, but it is a fair distance from the water source. I have pools that I fill in that enclosure with a hose, but I had to move the pools closer to the source, as I can't keep a hose out in the winter months. I will have to build another...

    My goose bit my neighbor

I agree, the neighbor has never said anything when the geese or the few chickens we have wander into their yard (we give them eggs). She was just shooing them out when the goose went after her. I can try to keep them in our yard as best I can and hopefully we won't have another incident. I do...

    My goose bit my neighbor

I have a Toulouse Goose (2 actually) and one of them has been a bit aggressive. Not so much towards us, but today, went over to the neighbor's yard and bit one of them! I am so sad, as I raised her/him from a baby. The other goose is a female and is very calm. We have a large piece of...

    Toulouse goose can fly?

My year old Toulouse girl was missing today. I saw some Canadian geese waaaaaay down in one of the cut corn fields and when I got out the binoculars, I saw an orange beak!! Darn her! I started walking down the back pastures and calling her name. When the Canadians took off...there she was...

    MARYLAND THREAD!

I have this posted elsewhere...but since this is the MD thread, maybe someone can help these geese out! I dropped in at the local humane society yesterday and they had 4 Geese (3 Toulouse and one mixed breed). They believe there is one male and three females. They were found "wandering" and...

4 Geese at Humane Society-Harford County, MD

Goosedragon, the same thoughts have crossed my mind...my geese have plenty of room to roam and still end up in the neighbors pastures! I feel awful for the geese at the Humane Society, as I really believe they were just wandering about and would go home. Argh. I hope someone around here...

4 Geese at Humane Society-Harford County, MD

I dropped in at the local humane society yesterday and they had 4 Geese (3 Toulouse and one mixed breed). They believe there is one male and three females. They were found "wandering" and were picked up by animal control. The adoption price is SO cheap. I would take them if I could, but I am...

    Crooked Beak.. injury or defect?

I have a "crooked beaked" chicken...she is a buckeye and is doing GREAT! I thought about culling her before I read about feeding her out of a deep dish. Glad I didn't, as she is bigger than most of my other girls and laying eggs just fine. I had a deep dish with feed for my geese and she...

Exactly how dusty/smelly/messy will the indoor chicks be?

I have 8 chicks in my unfinished basement that are 4 weeks old now. The weather isn't ideal to put them out in the coop yet, and really, they don't smell IMO. I CAN smell the pine shavings and I do have to say...there is a layer of dust on my 1st floor that appears minutes after I wipe it...

    (update)Ideal babies here! *pics*

I just got my Ideal chicks this morning...overnight! Awesome service. Post office called at 6 am and all 9 chicks are doing good so far. My children were so excited, they woke up when the phone started ringing yelling 'are the chicks here?'. Hummm, why don't they ever wake up for school that...

    Vaccinating?and extra chicks

Jody, I just looked at another post you did on Mareks and got my answers. I will visit the farm store this morning and see what I can do. The chicks are day olds. I will just have to weigh the risks of doing it/not doing it. Thanks again for your information.

    Vaccinating?and extra chicks

Okay, now I am worried. Is this something you can do retroactively? Why would Ideal recommend you NOT to do it with small flocks? Just wondering. I am sure there are numerous opinions on this, but I am always interested in other's "2 cents". If there is a strong reason that I should do it...

    Maryland?!

Quote: Maybe you should fence in the garden and let the chickens keep ranging. This is what I am doing...fencing the whole garden, putting the coop in the middle and letting the chickens graze one side, while I garden the other. Then, next year, switching sides. There is a great post on...

    Vaccinating?and extra chicks

I do know that the medicated feed does not prevent Merecks. I just chose not to get it done due to Ideal's recommendation and the fact that I only have 9 chicks. By the way, they arrived this morning at 5am and are all doing fine. No extras included, just the 9 I ordered. The people at...
