According to their website it would seem they only have ordinances against "fowl at large" like we have here in Topeka! I'd double check this beings as their site is extremely unhelpful, but for sure make sure whatever coop is 100% secure...
Hey all, So glad I found this board. I'm looking at housing in the Bonner Springs area, a couple of houses I know are in city limits but have 4+ acres. I have looked and searched every where, I called city office today and got voice mail. Is raising chickens legal in Bonner Springs, and if so...
Here's what we've done for fencing
Don't mind the mud and mess - it's very early spring of last year and we had so much snow - everything turned into deep mud and the girls free roamed during the day.
It's hard to see, I thought I had a better photo but couldn't find it. The coop is raised...
please do not make a post about new chicks without adding picts of them Cause you know the only reason I'm on the Chick forum right now is to get my fix till we can move and get more chickens
Unless you know the person you're splitting the order with it may not be a good idea to list on Craigslist. There are way to many people who will say they will split an order with you then back out at the last minute.
Instead I'd just order what you want, then sell the chicks on Craigslist once...

not always true......Feed stores especially the chain stores order from the nearest big hatchery in the area. The problems arise when people come in and handle the chicks when they have sick birds back at home.
But the chances are slim that you are going to have massive problems from...
I've found that using wood shaving bedding to be the easiest and 'cleanest' for the chicks. If things start looking messy just throw a handful of new wood chips in. No daily cleaning. 'No poo stuck on feet and legs.
this is our second year brooding chicks, last year we didn't have any problems, but this year 2wks after we got the chicks both dh and I started feeling horrible.
colds, swollen throats, felt like our ear tubes were swollen and blocked up.
2 days after deciding to move the chicks outside and...
last year I had a runt black sex-link. Today she is the biggest bird in the yard.
She was quite later in maturing and laying eggs think 7mo, she almost became dinner this fall, but I was to 'chicken' to do the deed. She now lays very pretty almost pink eggs.
yea, I'm not allowed to go to the feed store this time of year. Dh, who has slightly more self-control than I has already said that he goes if we need anything.
Any bag that I've ever seen that has cedar in it has it marked as cedar chips. And they tend to keep the cedar chips inside by the pet section.
Bedding outside of TC at the store nearest me has ALWAYS been pine.

Ummmm, I don't think that would help in this situation. They died because they starved, not because they got to cold. They were lost, not frozen.
(((HUGS))) I just got mine through the mail for the first time this week. I was on pins and needles also.
My chicks were delivered to the central post office. I did get a call in the middle of the night (I think it depends on who's working that night)
I think that even more now they are...
We got our chicks from Cackle came bright and early this morning! I should say dark and early. The post office called at 3:45am. And of corse I couldn't just let them sit in the post office warehouse
I ordered 15, and they sent 17. So a total of 6 Barred Rock, 6 Easter Eggers, and 5...
