please do not make a post about new chicks without adding picts of them Cause you know the only reason I'm on the Chick forum right now is to get my fix till we can move and get more chickens
We got our chicks from Cackle came bright and early this morning! I should say dark and early. The post office called at 3:45am. And of corse I couldn't just let them sit in the post office warehouse
I ordered 15, and they sent 17. So a total of 6 Barred Rock, 6 Easter Eggers, and 5...
I forgot to ask this morning when they called to let me know when my order was going to be shipped. Anyways does Cackle send extras or if when you order 15, that is what you get?
3! How likely is that?!?!?!?! 3 of my 5 laid their first eggs on the same day! One about mid-morning the other two laid mid-afternoon. They are golden comets at 18 wks.
One was pretty big about 2 1/2 inches ,the other two were more like what I was expecting, but 2 out of the three were...
Does anyone have pictures of black sexlink pullets and roos - I'm a little paranoid with my chicks. On the first one the comb is larger than the other, and very fleshy colored (not red) and the other's comb is very short and is molted color with black.
The thing is, the one with the short...
I picked these up from TSC. They were out of the mixed pullet bin, and the sign said that there were buffs, black sex link, and New Hampshire Reds.
BUUUTTTT, I don't think they are NHRs. They look more like my production reds.
What do you think? The bin did look like they had combined a...
Does anyone know of a place to get food grade DE in the Kansas City area? The TS near us does not carry it, and the clerk looked at me like I'm completely crazy.
I know there are 2 healthfood stores in the area, do you think they would carry it?
Thanks
We had some friends over for a play date today. The kids wanted to see the chicks so I took one out to show them. I knew better than to let them hold any of the chicks, but the 3yr old grabbed it out of my hand and was squeezing it. Her mom and I were able to coaks it out of her hands but...
At the hatchery I got 3 red sex-link and 3 gold sex-link
At first they all looked the same, but now 3 have more mature wing feathers, and the other 3 are still kind of stubby, shorter by atleast a row of growth. They are only 5 days old, but do you think it is a chance that the wing feather...
Here's the girls we picked up yesterday at a local hatchery. They are 3 gold sex-link, and 3 red sex-link. I think it's funny that they are the same color. One is smaller than the others but is so much more purkey and braver.
Here's a picture of the chicks lined up to nibble on the kids...
We just picked up some chicks from a hatery somewhat near. When we left they weren't even fully fluffed out.
When we got home I dipped their beaks in the water, but none of them started drinking it. I know they got some because they tilted their heads up and made gulping motions. But none...
I live in NW Missouri where the weather gets 100 only a few days a year, and -degreze a few days durring the winter. I'm planning on building a pallet coop for 6girls. Will I need insulation in all the walls, or in the roof, both?
Also we have tons of peanut packing styrofom and have access...
While I was at the feed store last night I saw some chick grit along side the chicken grit. Do I need this. I know chickens need some kind of grit, but do chicks?
I have a large dog kennel that I plan on making a brooder out of. My dog hates it so it's been sitting empty for over a year.
I'm gettting 6 sex-link pullets.
I know it's big enough when I get them, but for how long do you think I can keep them in there and will be happy?
=Gaaahhh, I'm so...
Hi all! I've been lurking for almost 2 years now. Wow, that is a long time. Anyways we're getting 6 pullet chicks on the 17th. I'm so excited. We just need to build a chicken coop now to house our chicks when their ready!
