So this morning Dad found a chicken in the yard. It's a little baby and has feathering on it's feet (which isn't in the photo). I just wanna know what it is, it's really quite cute.
I have a rooster that doesn't crow! He's a Bantam Frizzle, and I think the reason he doesn't is because he's a bit wobbly on his legs and has some brain damage. The breeder says he doesn't crow but we will find out tomorrow!
Some Plymouths are wonderful. There is one at my work named Matron and she is eight years old and is simply a delight. If the right Plymouth comes along I won't say no but I won't go out of my way to get another one.
The funny thing was the entire flock (MJ included) IS vaccinated. They come vaccinated. The vet said that sometimes the vaccine won't work properly (once in a blue moon). The others are a year old and are showing no symptoms. Our Araucana was recently clucky and still hasn't come back on the lay...
I was hard on our girl I think. She was recently euthanised due to suspected Mareks - despite her weirdness I miss her :( But I don't think I want another Plymouth Rock.
Bumping thread.
I have a chicken with suspected LL (Lymphoid Leukosis). She is not dead yet, so she has not had an autopsy so we don't know how many tumours she has. My other three chickens have no symptoms of LL like she does. She is a Plymouth Rock and she has almost all of the symptoms of...
*bump* LL doesn't have paralysis of limbs. My girl has suspected LL and it is not a quick-onset illness. It normally incubates and doesn't affect them till they are older. It sounds like your chickens have Mareks rather than LL.
Turns out she has some sort of nerve damage, well that's what the breeder thinks anyway. Her legs are weak and she hangs her tail down; this means she will never lay. This is her now at around 11 months old.
I haven't seen her pass a stool in a while, I have checked her vent and that is clear. She is also walking with a slight limp and her tail is down. She will lay for hours at a time and not walk around. Also when I mean she doesn't lay, she really is nowhere near. Her comb and wattles haven't...
My Plymouth Rock who is around 10-11 months old (it's always the Plymouth Rock) has been a bit under the weather. She is lethargic, she doesn't move around much, she doesn't eat a lot. She just lays down. I have wormed them, and given them some natural yoghurt. I am going to try some garlic in...
I have no idea where to stick this but since I am asking specifically about the Orpington it is fitting that it goes here. Buff Orpingtons are my absolute favourite breed of chicken. While I couldn't find one when we bought our girls (incidentally a month after we bought our girls the place...
Aww I love Buffs <3 They are my favourite breed but I couldn't get one as there were none in my area. However a month after we got our girls Buffs were for sale where we got our chickens from -_- But I plan to get a Buff in my next batch of chickens <3
My father and I set up a somewhat crappy little pen for them in the day and then they can sleep in a cardboard box at night. Then we will put them in the run again before we leave in the morning. Thank you for the ideas everyone.
