    Mystery Hen

Thank you to all who replied to my questions. Sadly I have to report that less than a week after this photo was taken I had a very crafty raccoon find its way thru a tiny weakness in my chicken run, and this beautiful young hen was killed. Traps are set for the predator, and the pen is as...

    Mystery Hen

Hello fellow chicken fans In June I stopped by Meyer Hatchery and picked up 4 new babies. They were in the bin where you could pick any color that you wanted and take your chances as to what breed they were - although the very sweet lady at Meyer took pity on me when I told her I lived in...

My question is this - I have Black Astralorp, Dominique and Golden Buff chickens (almost 4 weeks old...

    Sevin Dust, and Chickens

I have some new babies that came from a hatchery - and I think I might have an issue with mites/lice. To be determined after a closer look tonight. BUT I was wondering how young/old the chicks have to be before application of Sevin/Carbaryl dust. Mine are 2 1/2 weeks old Thanks

Hello from the suburbs of Chicago

Thanks Redsoxs! I look forward to seeing what they do this morning at 'feeding time'. It should be interesting! What % of their diet (at this age) can be made up of the extra things? Obviously they have their starter available 24 hours a day
