    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi all, I need a bit of help with my broody Welsummer. She's quite stubborn and despite not having any eggs to sit on, she continues to go straight back into the nesting box at any opportunity. She has also recently started to have a very dirty and dry comb. So dry that it appears to be cracking...

Do eggs need to be refrigerated or not?

Once you refrigerate an unwashed egg, can you move it to the counter? We moved recently and the eggs got stashed in the fridge by a well-meaning friend. None of them have been washed. Appreciate it!

ki4got - at barely 20 weeks they should be laying? I was mentally prepared for more like 24-26 weeks... I really hope you're wrong that they're both boys! That would be crushing.

If long saddle feathers would be apparent at this age on a crested male, then she's a pullet - her saddle feathers are super short, even compared to the multi. Fingers tightly crossed :)

A couple more showing their faces a little better. Here's hoping for four eggs whenever my little flock starts laying (the other two are a welsummer and a legbar)!

Thx TXFlowers and Bernie - here are some better photos of my two - the multi and gray. Based on what you've said they're both likely pullets. Hooray!

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

This is not the greatest photo (through the screen door), but the gray/white is the one I find more ambiguous - developed wattles and comb first but the multi SFH now has similarly sized comb and wattles. They're about the same size as well - not sure if Roos are supposed to be larger in SFH...

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Hello all! I know that sexing SFH has proved difficult for many - my two are now 20 weeks old and I am wondering, if one is a roo, will there be significant visual differences at this age? Tail? Comb? Wattles? Thx in advance.

OohLaLa, those look like girls to me, but I'm fairly new to this! Those are great photos for the more experienced folks to weigh in on!

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi OohLaLa, do they all have defined V coloring on their heads and dark chipmunk-like stripes down their backs? Do you have a photo of the three of them from above?

Mtadkins5, can you post a photo of your brooder? It definitely sounds like you need more ventilation. Could you leave the cover off completely or do they need protection from other pets? If they need protection from your other pets, consider cutting out part of the cover and replacing it with...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi all, I am new to chickens and have a 5 week old Welsummer, Lindi, who had the markings of a girl when she hatched, however she has got a pretty sizable comb compared to my two Swedish Flowers and my Cream Legbar, and I noticed today that she's starting to get wattles - is this normal at such...

    The Legbar Thread!

Here's a better picture of her wings - they extend probably an inch or two past her little butt. Trying to be patient for the rest of her to catch up!

    The Legbar Thread!

Thanks, dretd! Cadbury's wings are crazy big for her little body compared to my Welsummer and 2 Swedish Flowers! I don't have an appropriate scale to weigh her, but since you think yours are just under or at half a pound, I feel better about her size. Here she is:

Thanks, Bernie56! They are getting so beautiful! Would the comb be larger? It's about comparable to my multi's comb. Here is a better photo of her face:

SunnySkies, so sorry to read about your morning. Good luck with the fortifications! I'm in need of an assist, SFH owners. I have my first chicks, and two are 6 week old SFH. Since I am a total noob at this, I'm not sure what I should be looking for to determine if these are some beautiful...

    The Legbar Thread!

Hello Legbar enthusiasts! I got my first chicks about a month ago and have a sweet little 4 week old cream Legbar girl in addition to a 4 week old Welsummer girl and two 5 week old Swedish flowers. My little Cadbury is so much smaller than the other three! Is this normal with what you've seen...
