Well I contacted the person I got them from and turns out it's a frizzled Cochin. Somehow it got mixed up in the wrong brooder! It's growing out great, but I'm still unsure on the sex.
Here's one of my new chicks. Supposed to be a barred rock, but with frizzle wings and feathered legs I think the milkman stayed over a bit too long one trip...
So... I picked up a 12 pack of nuggets recently lol. They were all Barred Rocks, straight run. When picking them out I saw one in the brooder that had feathered legs. Obviously Barred Rocks don't have feathered legs so I thought I'd give it a shot to see what it was. Now at 15 days old she...
Yep, that's me! I don't know what happened with those birds, but all is better now. I've gotten rid of all of my Silkies except the one that i got from you, Rosie. I'll never part with her! My girls love her. They were picked as students of the month at day care (4 years old) and the pics...
So frustrated...
Orscheln was supposed to get chicks yesterday, then they said the shipment wouldn't come until today. I went up there and now they don't know when they'll get them.
Another sand lover here. I've tried everything and it'll be sand from now on. For those worried about the cold temps, the sand heats up from the lamp and the babies love it. Honestly, my biggest reason that I like it is for fire safety. Shavings and straw can catch fire if your lamp is too...
I tried putting chicks under a broody tonight without success. I have a GLW bantam that goes broody nearly once every 2 months, so I figured I'd give it a shot and picked up some chicks. I got 3 under her without her going too crazy, but when I placed #4 next to her she abandoned the whole...
I haven't seen any mites, but will check again. There is tons of roost space. Most of the birds sleep in the coop, just a few like to pile up outside. I can't send them off, if already disposed of the bodies.
Thanks for the help. You guys know everything! I didn't get a chance to get vitamins today, but did add ACV to the waterer. They're all in the coop now. I might leave them locked in there for a few days to try and reset what home is. I usually go pick them up one by one and put them in the...
I think Mareks because of the twisted necks. From what I've read the neurological symptoms of head turning, walking backwards in circles and blindness point to Mareks. The one quarantined Silkie has all 3 of those. That being said, she's still alive. The dead ones had twisted necks also...
