UPDATE: It's been a while, but I did end up re-homing Ginger with a friend who has 2 very docile chickens. Ginger has been living a wonderfully stress free life there and I get to visit from time to time. :)

Thanks for the reply. Following "introduction protocol" (Love all the information on this site - BTW), I kept them separate to work things out while protected by making a smaller run attached to a large wire dog crate (complete with a roost for them to sleep on) next to the existing coop...

I added 4 new girls (rescues dropped at the farm - sigh) to my flock about 3 weeks ago and one girl (Ginger) is being beaten down badly by a hen from the existing flock (Mary Lou). Poor Ginger hides under the coop and will lay flat (beyond submissive) while Mary Lou is around. The worst part...

Wanted to give you an update...Nugget is doing well and seems to be healthy and happy. She started laying eggs about 2 months ago and loves to hang around the horse barn. She's very popular with the kids, too. Thank you for all your help.

Update: Nugget is doing well! She lays every other week and is still very "person" oriented. We decided to keep her separate from my regular size chickens, so she hangs around the horse barn and pals around with a duckling and angora rabbit. Thank you all for your help..

I have no idea what happened to her, she had no discernable injuries, just a small amount of blood coming from one eye and her mouth. We wonder if she was trampled by a horse...our flock gets to free-range on a 10 acre horse farm. RIP little girl.

Kim, that sounds like a great idea! I might have to try that when my trees wear out; just need to make sure they are dry before using them. We may have come up with a new 'coop' product...vanilla scented pine shavings
