Second set for 2010, 20% hatch on the Jan, hatch. 27 in the bator now due 21 st. Hard to tell fertility due to very very dark shells. The hens are Golden Comets, got them from Meyer hatchery last year. Good egg producers. Roos grew extremely fast. Lost 2 from ?????? on the Jan hatch, maybe...
Hey, some solutions for feeding corn;; At present I feed some corn to the animals, chicks and hogs. Amazing that the hogs know the difference between GMO and open pollinated corn. This coming season I will plant about 1/2 acre of open pollinated corn, organic, no but without any alteration by...
Hello; I used eggcartons.com and they were shipped pronto and no problem. I did it on line, super easy and fast. After I got them, all my people brought used cartons, but;;;; I'm ready for the next shortage. Have a great day Paul/partimer
Here in Kansas, NW corner, got to -11* a few weeks ago. All the birds stayed in the coop, but a few roos got frostbite. Nothing bad, just shows darker areas on the waddles and combs. I'm told it'll be alright. They run in snow and ice, still scratching for what???? When it's below zero degrees I...
:)Howdy; Has anyone found problems with feeding milo grain in the feed??? and thanx At present I am mixing red wheat corn and milo. In an article about chick feed there was mention not to feed milo grain. WHY NOT????
:/Just gotta know??? Has anyone tried or hatched chicks from the first eggs laid or very young pullet eggs?? I have 9 BO hatched out here, and now they are laying, and my curiosity and anxiety is getting the best of me. New Years day I would like to set as many as I possibly can. Answers...
Ninny; As for a heated watwer system, depends how many $$$ you want to invest. A recirculating system, a hot wter heater, insulated lines and a circulation pump like and /RV 12 VDC pump . They also make smaller and less expensive recirculating pumps.
What would be the proper portion of feed for pullets about ready to lay. I have 35 all ready to lay and would like to know the minimum and maximum of feed to give them. Will they need more than consumed in 15 20 minutes, twice daily??
thanx Paul partimer;
;)Hooray !!! we have a warming, 30 degrees :cool:at 4 pm and same old 1 inch of ice on everything. Looking for the sunshine by Tuesday. Nice living here in NW Kansas.
Yep, caught with my pants down on the weather situation here in NW Kansas. Put up a extra windbreak for some piggies and covered veggies. Snow and cold just jumped right in, 18* today Saturday, and more sleet and snow tomorrow. Roads are slickery so staying home with the animals is better than...
Oh Oh OH those nasty things; My solution, and it works if I remember to use it. At our farm store, or sporting outlets they sell Cutter's outdoor woodsman spray for fleas, ticks and yes chiggers. OFF doesn't work, but the cutters woodsmen does if you remember to spray it on the shoes, legs...
Thanx for the reply.
No scab, same color as the comb. This sets aside of the full comb, or what looks like the full comb. My thought was that it would be just like extra skin etc; I will take extra scruntiny and a watchful eye for several days. It is time to put them out to the big house...
:PAh, winter is coming, more sleep; At age 73, and as active as I care to be, I find 7 hours of sleep sufficent. Don't count TV naps for boring news or programs. Stay active, eat good and sleep less. Oh smile !!!
My first hatchery order was from Meyer in Ohio. 11 BO roos, and 41 pullets. Got 53 total, all in very good health and conditon on arrival. 8 weeks later all are doing well, and are nice looking birds. I got them when they were on a special, I think it was a great deal, especially all alive and...
A little puzzeling; One 4-5 week roo has an extra pimple like part on the rear side of the comb. Is this just a oddity or something of concern. Only 12 chics in a large brooder , all hatched out of Ebay eggs from Missouri and BO for the breed. Opinions please, or suggestions. many thanx
They are an amazing animal. Hatching in the incubator and then watching them grow and become a part of the "little farm" . We've just begun, and interesting and sometimes exciting..They are Gods creatures. We love them all;;;
My little flock of 53 is now almost five weeks old. they have been moved out to the chicken hotel(coop) and have ample room to run, fly jump etc; We have a large garden and I'm concerned as to how much and how soon I can feed them moderately with garden products, especially squash. I have...
