This is all seems like nobody really knows what they are talking about.
1. Neighbors hate roosters more often than they say
2. Crowing is contagious. With moonlight they crow all night
3. When they fight, they sometimes injure the voice box on their own and greatly reduce the noise.

Check out my blog about the fallacies of meat birds and global warming.

I have done a ton of research into the history and genetics of Naked Necks. Check it out here:

I have written a history of the Bresse chicken and am hoping for input. Mine are American Bresse with blue feet and all physical criteria. Has anybody else had one this remarkable?

This incubator will fall apart on you if handled gently. It has poorly made walls that let heat in and out from the outside and only keeps temp at al because it wastes energy. If the temp changes outside in the summer, your eggs will be FRIED real quick. Mine broke after 2 uses, duct taped for...
I find these to be HORRIBLE. If the temp changes around them your eggs are fried or frozen. Plus all the parts are all so cheap. Mine broke after 2 uses and killed more chickens than it hatched
I wish there was a place to get them in their original size, everybody wants to bantamize everything and make chooks smaller. I love them and their gentle natures. They tend to step on the babies a bit more than some others. They are wonderful ducky mothers.
This isn't so. I read the figures from the industry and losses can go as high as 25 percent and still make money. The industry is on a PR campaign against healthy, backyard growers. This is a false gospel but one being sold hard right now. Are you paid by the industry? That being said, many...
Cornish X can live up to 4 years (so far). They are hearty birds that free range well and age well with the right care. Because they can't really roost, the bedding must be clean. I had two die of fungal infections recently. We had too much rain and everything got moldy. But don't believe...
St. Johns Wort does work and save birds lives. But only in a smaller percentage and they do carry damage from Marek's after that. Id like to build immunity to Marek's
Lies, lies and more lies. That's what the industry and inexperienced farmers spread
about the CornishX. This is a magnificent and compassionate chicken they have created, quite accidentally while breeding it for maximum meat and maximum speed of rearing. I saved this Cornish X hen from my...
Ducks can sometimes swim in the pond on day one even without a mom. I know they drown most of the time but we had some hatch from an abandoned nest and they ran out with the other ducks and into the pond and no problem.
Organic feed is NOT GMO free. That is a myth. The food supply is so contaminated with GMOs that any food with corn cannot honestly state it is GMO free. Here in California the complete food is Modesto Milling. The King Organic has no corn and is thus supposedly GMO free.
Meat birds like the...
I fully free range. They have an acre and essentially no fences. I now turn them out at 4 days old, the same as a mother chick takes them out. They do really well and seem to eat more pasture, bugs and forage during their 6-8 week lives this way. This is much more difficult in winter. You...
Fantastic bird. None better in brown layers. None better in dual purpose (Brahma better for meat part) . Because they are so popular, there has been sloppy production by some hatcheries. Breed your own! They breed true
Chicken raising wouldnt be HALF as fun without Americanas. The question is what is an Americana? These have been bred in many different ways and produced poorly by some hatcheries. At their best, they are the best, they weigh 8-9 pounds for a hen, lay huge eggs and lay all year round and...
Everybody says these are small. I have 2 from2 different hatcheries and both are 8 pound hens! I am going to try my third one for meat. They lay medium white eggs, maybe 5 per week. They are very flighty and beautiful. I would not pick them over leghorns in the future. Also RIR and PR...
