Thanks for the info Eggcessive. I really may harvest the rooster. He is mean to the girls and not really pleasant to be around. I just don't know what to do really. I'm sure the girls would be fine without him and I'm not looking to hatch chicks.
Hello,
I'm a first time chicken owner and tonight when I closed the girls up for the night, I notice about four or five hens that were missing feathers on their back near their tail feathers. I googled this and seen that it could be molting or the rooster just doing his job. A little background...
LOL! There was a whole bunch of time and sweat put into this project.... And they're still not laying. They will be 23 weeks old Friday. Ready for some eggs!!!!
I may post a better pic of Rufus tomorrow to make sure he is a he. I a automatically assumed the the barred rock was a roo. It may be that it is a hen. His comb is not much larger than the australorps, however he/she has a totally different disposition.
Yeah donrae, you're right. I think the route I may take is sharing with friends. We have some friends and family that wants to have chickens and just have not acted on there desires. So if I order the chicks for them, they will have to take them. My wife never was really fond of birds of any...
I received an email back from MM and they told me they would credit my account for the price of the two roos and when I reordered they would throw in two free roos. The only downside is I have to order a minimum of 15 chicks and I wasn't really wanting that many... But hey I may get a few more...
Well, I contacted MM this morning and they apologized for the mistake and requested photos of both roos. They told me once they received the photos that they would be in contact with me.
I plan to call MM tomorrow and see what there course of action will be. I don't know why I am so fixated on having pure breed chickens, but I am. I know it could have been an honest mistake, I just hope that we can come to an agreement. The barred roo is very pretty, but so are the australorp...
Thanks Whittni! Is it common for MM to send something other than what I ordered?? I was really wanting to have full blooded Black Australorps? Should I contact MM for a refund or replacement?
I'm a little concerned that what I ordered from MM hatchery is not what I received. I ordered 13 female black australorps and 2 males, however, I have had a couple of co-workers to tell me that he is a dominicker. I contacted MM and they told me he would eventually turn solid black. He is 2...
Well, I appreciate the expertise you all have provided. I did a google image search on Dorkings and they are very pretty birds. I may just have to make an exception for Trooper. This is my first time raising chickens and I thought I had read that it was better to just have one roo. Not sure how...
Thanks ShayBaby, I don't want to mix breed the Australorps, but our family has become attached to Trooper and I was hoping Trooper was a hen. Now I'm torn as to what to do. So you guys absolutely with out a doubt think Troop is a cockerel????
Yes, CochinBrahmaLover I can keep roosters based on where I live. But, I do not want to have mix breed Australorps. I already have an Australorp roo. Is this breed worth keeping???
This is the mystery chick that we received from McMurray hatchery when we ordered our Australorps. I have since named him/her Trooper. I am almost certain Trooper is a female, but I may be wrong. I was wondering if any of you may know what breed he/she is and also if it is a he or she. It was a...
